Description

Following pick-up from your hotel or B&B in Catania, head to Rifugio Sapienza on Mount Etna. Admire the stunning view on the way. A local guide will provide you with detailed information about the history and terrain of the volcano. Visit the sites of the last eruptions and see the Silvestri Craters.

From Rifugio Sapienza, hike to an altitude of 2,000 meters along one of the natural paths of the Parco dell'Etna. Continue to a lava cave and explore with helmets and lamps to guide you. On the way back down, go to Zafferana Etnea. Visit a famous organic farm for a delicious tasting of typical produce, such as honey, wine and oil.

Continue toward Taormina, stopping en route at Isola Bella Nature Reserve. Considered the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea,” the reserve is connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand. Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.

After lunch (own expense), spend the afternoon in the picturesque town of Taormina. Stroll its alleys and backstreets. Admire monuments, such as the Palazzo Corvaja, Teatro Antico and Piazza IX Aprile. See the Torre dell’Orologio and Cattedrale di Fortezza. Go to the Badia Vecchia, Palazzo Duca di Santo Stefano and more. Enjoy some free time to shop in the exclusive stores.

Nando was a fantastic guide! There were eight in our tour, and he made sure everyone had a great experience. Nando is extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, geography and geology of Sicily. His English is excellent and easy to understand. The tour itself is excellent. We rode up to Mount Etna and Nando hiked the short way up to the top with us. Taormina and the winery were also great fun. I would definitely take a tour with Nando again!!

Georgia did a great job! We enjoyed this tour. Took us to the top of Mount Etna, active volcano and we walked along the black obsidian lava which was warm on our feet even though it was zero degrees celsius. The beautiful tourist city of Taormina was a relaxing bonus and the wine, honey tasting completed the day.
