A camel might not be the first animal that comes to mind when you picture your Mexican sojourn, but these hardy dromedaries are the perfect way to explore the desert and fascinating ecosystem of the Baja outback.

Head to Rancho San Cristobal, where your friendly local guides lead you on a scenic nature walk through the desert's fascinating and unique vegetation. Learn about the area's native flora and fauna, then hop into an open-air, off-roading vehicle for a ride across the sands. Keep your eyes peeled for massive, ancient cacti reaching their spiky arms skyward and the cara caras, foxes, deer, and chipmunks that call this harsh and arid landscape home.

Next, meet your gentle, humpbacked escort, and set out for a camel ride across a wide stretch of beach along the Pacific. Learn about camel behavior on this fun and entertaining ride, then make your way to a local ranch to refuel over lunch. Savor traditional Mexican dishes including fresh tortillas and authentic salsas.

Your tour concludes with a tequila tasting, so you can learn all about the production and different varieties of the fiery Mexican libation. Delve into the history of the regional spirit and sample mezcal before you return to Cabo.

Sample lunch menu includes:

  • Chicken mole
  • Ground beef stew with organic vegetables
  • Rice and refried beans
  • Cactus salad
  • Mushroom salad
  • Tuna salad
  • Mexican caprese salad
  • Quesadillas
  • Homemade salsas and fresh tortillas
  • Tortilla chips

We had a party of 12, including children and grandparents, this was such a fun and engaging activity. It is not just a camel safari but also a wildlife tour in the park. It was fun and educational, which we loved. Our guide Marcel, made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the activity. It was also a great, unique photo opportunity. Everyone in our family loved it. Would highly recommend. Exceeded expectations.

This was every bit as awesome as I hoped for and then some. Our guides Ted and Pablo were excellent. Tip...bring water on the hike portion! Camel rides amazing, lunch was amazing...best food we’ve had in Cabo...and tequila es muy bien!
