Venture 18 miles (30 km) from the bustling city center of Lima to discover the majestic Pachacamac ruins, which date back to 200 A.D. Led by a knowledgeable tour guide, learn about the fascinating history of the Incas and explore the site's pyramid temples and elaborate ceremonial centers.

After being picked up from your hotel, make your way through the arid Lurin Valley to the ancient ruins of Pachacamac—the name means “Earth Maker” in the Quechua language of the people who occupied this region before the Inca conquest. The partially excavated site consists of an impressive 17 pyramids, a cemetery, and ancient frescoes.

Admire the well-preserved portals and hallways, and hear the story of the archaeologists who rediscovered Pachacamac’s hidden treasures during the early 19th century. Admire the tombs of the Wari Empire and ponder the rituals and ceremonies that took place at the Templo Viejo, Templo Pintado, and Templo de Urpiwachak.

From the top of the ruins’ bluff, take in coastal views out over the sea as you learn about the peoples who occupied this region throughout Peru’s ancient history, including the Ichmas, Huari, Incas, and Spanish conquerors. Get a feel for what life was like for the pre-Incan inhabitants and listen to the tale of the powerful oracle who called this citadel home. Learn about the effects of weather patterns and hurricanes on preservation and excavation efforts at the site before your return to Lima.

This was a great tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and professional. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. I think everyone in the group felt comfortable and questions we had were answered by our guide, who also took some great photos for us. The site is worth visiting as a contrast to Machu Picchu and I would recommend Condor tours as being a relaxed and reliable experience.

We liked your except that nunnery and museum were closed and therefore we didn’t see them. We felt that closing time should have been checked and pick up adjusted so they could be seen.
