Explore one of the most mysterious cities in the country of Ukraine on a private tour to the catastrophic site of Chernobyl. Learn about the events that predated and followed one of the biggest technological catastrophes in all of humankind, feeling the shock as you journey through the abandoned village of Pripyat.

Following convenient pick-up from your Kiev hotel, set off north for a drive along the banks of the Dnieper River. After a relaxing ride, you reach the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, a 1,000-square-mile (2,000-sq-km) site surrounding the nuclear power plant that exploded in 1986. As you enter the secluded Zone and see the plant with your own eyes, your guide relates the course of events that led to the tragic accident and the measures that were taken to stop the contamination from spreading.

A deeper drive into The Zone takes you down a road to what was once one of the most classified Soviet military objects—the Duga radar, also known as the Russian Woodpecker. Travel back to the Cold War as you learn of the constant fear people felt over the growing possibility of nuclear attacks.

After a stop for lunch at a traditional Ukrainian restaurant, travel further to Pripyat, a former city originally meant to be an example of social and economic Soviet success. Following the explosion at Chernobyl, the city was evacuated and has remained abandoned to this day. Stroll the high street with its moss-covered buildings, decrepit schoolyards, and eerily eroded amusement park before making the drive back to Kiev.

Excellent day. Very informative and educational. Our guide, Konstantinis was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I didn't realise we would see so much and get so close. Worth every penny and every moment.

We had a really amazing day! I was very surprised at how close you get to everything, being able to walk into the abandoned buildings. Lunch was also very good! Or guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable.
