Description

The day tour from Sofia to Skopje is a great option to see another one Balkan country. The capital of Republic of Macedonia is an unique city that, in the most interesting way, combines the new and the old, East and West, the Muslim and the Christian traditions.

Skopje is everything but boring. Nowhere else you can see such a vivid contrast between modern life and 19th century traditions. The two main groups of people - the Christians and Albanians create an atmosphere which is hard to be described but must be felt.

In the times of the Ottoman Empire, Skopje use to be a natural center for people inhabiting the southwestern part of the Balkans. Totally preserved the spirit of this times is a small part of the city, better known as the old charshia (market), which is one of the main attractions of the town. The biggest attractions of modern Skopje are the impressive baroque buildings and monuments, part of the Skopje 2014 project, which aims to transform the city’s view. The monuments of Alexander the Great, his father Philip the Great, his mother, triumphal arch, marble and bronze statues scattered everywhere, huge ships anchored in the river.
