Description

Visit the art galleries, artisanal shops, and taste cachaça (Brazilian rum) at a well-stocked shop in Embu das Artes, a small town outside of downtown São Paulo. Take a journey through the 17th-century architecture to discover the city's remarkable artistic quarter.

Take a walk through Embu das Artes, which originated as a Jesuit settlement in the 1600s. In the 20th century it finally became recognized as an artistic center—featuring cobblestone streets, a community of talented artisans, fine cuisine, and colonial architecture.

As you admire the district, check out the Museum of Sacred Art in a Jesuit priest building, the oldest building in the city. In addition, check out the Church of our Lady of the Rosary, a well-preserved cathedral from the 17th century with a simple Baroque style. Afterward, check out the artisanal shops on the street, and be sure to sample cachaça (Brazillian rum) at a well-stocked shop in the city. On the weekends take a walk through the vibrant Arts and Crafts Fair.
