Description

Travel to the village of Kyae Sar Gone where you board a kayak to explore the elaborate canals and inlets that feed into Inle Lake. Paddle past homes supported on wooden stilts to avoid the high tides of the rainy season, and encounter local fishermen hauling in a catch before arriving at the lake.

Meet up with your tour guide at your hotel lobby, and then take a short ride in a shuttle van to Kyae Sar Gone. This small village is known for its soybean crackers and tofu cakes. Tour the village for an accurate glimpse into the daily lives of farmers, fishermen, and artisans of the Shan State.

Make your way to the Kyae Sar Gone monastery where your guide gives a brief safety orientation before you embark on a journey downstream to Inle Lake. The calm, shallow canals support many species of fish and provide rich silt for growing rice. The local tribes overcame nature’s challenges by building entire communities on wooden stilts.

Paddle past villages and fishermen to arrive at the mouth of Inle Lake. Here, you can see evidence of daily life in the form of canoes and small boats that locals use for their daily commute. Head over to the nearby village of Lin Kin to make a brief stop to their Buddhist monastery where a private boat awaits to transfer you back to your hotel.
