Description

Hop aboard one of Italy's famed high-speed trains to zip down to the country's capital city. Spend a day at your leisure in Rome, touring the Vatican Museums, riding between landmarks on a hop-on hop-off bus, and seeking out the Eternal City's best bucatini before your train back to Venice.

Make your way to Venice’s Santa Lucia train station for an early morning departure for Rome. The picturesque and comfortable ride south flies by in just about 4 hours for a late morning arrival in Italy’s vibrant capital. Head to the Termini station and grab a seat aboard a double-decker hop-on hop-off bus—the perfect way to take in this sprawling metropolis’ major sites, from the ancient ruins of the Colosseum to the temples and roadways of the Roman Forum.

Around noon, make your way to the Vatican to explore its breathtaking museums with an expert local guide. Roam the centuries-old halls and grounds of the heart of the Catholic Church and gaze up at the stunning frescoes that adorn the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, meticulously painted by Renaissance master Michelangelo in the early 16th century.

Your train back to Venice doesn’t depart until close to 7 PM, leaving you time to roam the sunny streets of the Trastevere, seek out some shady respite in the gardens of the Villa Borghese, or climb the Spanish steps. You can snap photos in front of the Trevi Fountain, sip espresso like a local, or cool off with a scoop of creamy gelato.
