Enjoy Lapland’s night skies while floating in an icy lake thanks to an insulated suit that keeps you warm in spite of your environment. Note twinkling constellations and keep watch for the Northern Lights on this tour that lets you fully immerse yourself in Finland’s subarctic wilderness.

As you reach the ideal spot for viewing the celestial canopy, slip into your drysuit. Arrange its insulating layers over your warm clothing, and then plunge into a freezing lake. Experience a sense of delighted surprise as you float without feeling the water’s icy chill. Next, follow in earnest as your expert guide reveals a map of the starry evening sky, illuminating the constellations and the glowing Milky Way galaxy. Don’t forget to look out for the Northern Lights—or Aurora Borealis—the stunning arcs of light caused by solar winds interacting with the earth’s atmosphere.

Emerging from the lake, warm up with a plush towel and a toasty beverage. As you board the bus, take a final glimpse at the enchanting skyscape. Create a memory of this once-in-a-lifetime event that manages to outdo even the bravest polar bear plunge before bidding the frozen tundra adieu.

You can’t control Mother Nature, so don’t have high hopes to see the Northern Lights (we didn’t), but the drive into the woods was great, the silence was breathtaking, and even though I would never, in a million years, see myself plunging into the icy waters, there I was! Even the kids went in!!! Full credits to our guide, Santerri, for he was 5 stars!
