Description

Venture to the summit of Castle Rock and visit Edinburgh Castle, the historic fortress that dominates the city's horizon. On this guided tour, you can enjoy skip-the-line entrance, learn about the castle's crucial role in Scottish history, and enjoy free time to explore at your own pace.

After meeting your guide and fellow travelers, you stroll along the Upper End of the Royal Mile and head up to Edinburgh Castle, a legendary landmark that has played a significant role in Scotland's history.

Perched on an extinct volcano and overlooking the Old Town, the citadel was the site of battles, royal residences, and army headquarters. Now it is a tranquil place that showcases Edinburgh's heritage—and boats some of the most amazing views of the city.

Follow your guide through the castle's grounds and gain an in-depth insight into the city's striking past and rich history. Visit captivating attractions including the Great Hall, the Crown Jewels, the Stone of Scone, Mons Meg, and the haunting Prison of Wars.

Listen as your guide narrates intriguing stories to learn about the love affairs of former kings and queens, accounts of fierce Iron Age warriors, the agendas of Scottish soldiers and prisoners in the 1600s.

Time permitting, you can enjoy free time to explore the stately grounds further at your own leisure.

The guide was excellent. Our personal tour afterwards would have been better if we had a chance to get a map of the castle (skipping the line also met skipping getting a map).

Exceptional! If you get Melanie Boyd as your guide you have karma smiling on you. Melanie is very knowledgeable, she knows the Castle history and dispenses the information in a very fun and interactive manner. Anyone can drone on and on about history but it takes special skills to keep your audience attentive and engaged. Melanie has those skills , throwing out little jovial one-liners to make sure we are paying attention. Highly recommend this adventure while you visit Edinburgh.

Raj, our guide, was full of knowledge, interesting stories and humour. Once he finished his tour and imparting his knowledge we were then free to roam the castle and do our own exploring. I would highly recommend this event.
