Description

Celebrate Accra’s rich history with a guided walking excursion to discover the most impressive architectural examples of the city’s colonial past. Explore personality-rich neighborhoods, as you uncover the significance of their centuries-old buildings and landmarks.

Lace up your walking shoes, and meet your guide by the washed-out, white stone walls of 17th century Ussher Fort. Make your way to Dutch and Danish Accra—the first neighborhoods occupied by the Europeans—and take some time to admire the grand buildings while your guide provides informative context to their past, present, and future.

Cut over to Jamestown, an area where English officials of the 19th century government used to reside. Next, wander through the Ga-Mashie district (known as Old Accra by locals), and see how the densely populated area sets regal colonial architecture against brightly colored, metal-roofed homes.

Stop at the Sea View Hotel, the oldest in Accra, and hear about its intriguing past from your guide. Then swing by Palladium Hall—a building that was a significant player in Accra’s political scene—before concluding your tour at the massive Arena Accra.
