Take a tour through vibrant African townships and Malay settlements to get a literal taste of what makes Cape Town great. Snack, chat, and see people's lives as you hear how your guide's local NGO is changing girls' futures in the city.

Your tour starts with a ride along the winding Atlantic coast as you head to the township of Imizano Yetho to meet your guide. As a member of this township's community, your guide can tell you the story of how the township came to be during the Apartheid era, the struggles it has gone through over the years, and the improvements that have been made to overcome them.

Stop for tea at your guide's modest home and try local delicacies such as “smileys,” or barbecued sheep's head, and “walkie talkies,” chicken beaks and feet. Next, return to one of the older parts of Cape Town, the Bo-Kaap, where Dutch settlers housed laborers from Malaysia, India, and the Middle East.

A walk along the cobblestone streets and between rows of painted multicolored houses brings you to the home of a superb local cook, who helps you prepare a typical Malay lunch. Sit down together to enjoy the results of your efforts, while discussing the local family heritage.

Nearby, you pay a visit to the small local Bo-Kaap museum, located in one of the oldest local houses, and learn more about the history and origins of the Cape Malays.
