Description

Uncover the cultural charms of Sofia on this guided walking tour. Discover the city's fascinating historic center, pass impressive sights like the National Theater and the King's Palace, then indulge in a variety of traditional Bulgarian food and drink tastings to keep your energy up as you stroll.

Meet you guide at the Grand Sofia Hotel, right in the heart of the city, and begin your walking exploration as your guide shares tales from Sofia's past. Admire landmarks like the National Theater, the King's Palace, and the Presidency building, then make your way to a café for your first taste of Bulgarian shopska, a tomato, cucumber, and cheese salad. Wash it down with a cup of ayran, a creamy drink prepared with yogurt.

Wander by the Early Christian Rotunda St. George on your way to Small Jerusalem Square—from here you can see the largest synagogue in southeastern Europe, the 10th-century Orthodox church of St. Nedelya, and the towering minaret of the 16th-century Banya Bashi Mosque. Your culinary quest continues at the Central Hali Market, where stalls are piled high with produce and some the best baklava and tolumbichki cake in town. Indulge in these 2 delights as your guide shares the history behind this century-old structure.

Next, ride on one of Europe's newest underground systems to an authentic Bulgarian restaurant to end your tour over a glass of wine and a meze platter of lukanka sausage, babek salami, Fillet Elena cured meat, and pastrami-like pastarma.

The guide was terrific. The 3 hour tour lasted 5. I went of the tour with a couple from Spain and we bonded immediately. I would recommend it to everyone. Sofia is a beautiful city to stroll through. I have been to Sofia before and have taken several other walking tours, this one was the best. I have also taken several Urban Adventure tours in other cities of the world. I good guide, friendly travelers, and a little wine or beer makes a lot of things and times right.

Really interesting walking tour around Sofia sampling traditional Bulgarian food at 3 locations. It was just myself and my daughter on the day we went so it was like a private tour. The tour guide was highly knowledgeable about the sights and locations and we found it very informative. Would definitely recommend.
