Description

Uncover hidden archaeological sites and captivating Inca cities on this journey into the Sacred Valley. Discover the history of South America's mysterious lost civilizations with visits to fascinating ruins that are surprisingly well-preserved.

After your guide picks you up at your hotel, leave Cusco behind as you head toward Tipón, an archaeological site whose 12 wide agricultural terraces are in remarkable condition. To this day, water still rushes through the canal built in the 15th century to irrigate the fields.

Next, make your way to Pikillacta, a pre-Inca ceremonial site that was built by the Wari people. Walk along the walled pathway that divides the site and follow your guide as they describe the uses for some of 700 structures that cover more than 7,400 acres (3,000 ha). Visit 2- and 3-story buildings made out of stone and mud, spot the head of a condor carved into the side of a cliff, and learn about daily life for the thousands of citizens who once inhabited the site.

Finally, visit the village of Andahuaylillas, home to the famed San Pedro Apóstol , whose grand frescoes have led it to be called the Sistine Chapel of America. Step into the whitewashed church's nave and gaze at the spectacular artwork found inside, admiring ornate renditions of religious scenes surrounded by large golden frames.
