Victor Harbor with McLaren Vale Tour from Adelaide

by Gray Line Australia Duration 8h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is $81

Discover Victor Harbor, the quaint wine-making region and sleepy coastal town in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. Spend a full day exploring the seaside resort and the historic paddle-steamer port of Goolwa, where Australia’s longest river meets the sea.

After escaping the city buzz, climb the Mt. Lofty Ranges for spectacular views of Adelaide, from Glenelg to Gulf St. Vincent. Stop by at the historic town of Strathalbyn, which was connected to Goolwa by broad-gauge horse tram in 1869. Next, marvel at the sight of Goolwa's port, where the Murray River, the longest river in the nation, meets the lakes and sea.

Continue your tour at the magnificent seaside town of Port Elliott on the stunning Horseshoe Bay. While here, visit The Bluff on Encounter Bay. This rocky outcrop of granite originated from the earth’s magma about 500 million years ago.

Afterward, head into the McLaren Vale wine region, located among beautiful, undulating hills sweeping down to pristine beaches. Wander around its vineyards, old stone wineries, and orchards, and taste some of the finest local wines. Before your return trip to the city, sample some of Medlow's confectioneies and The Almond Train's produce.

A friend suggested I visit Victor Harbour as she and her family had lived there for while. I wasn't disappointed. The drive from Adelaide to Victor Harbor is very pretty and scenic with a few stops along the way for photos. Strathalbyn was a lovely little place to stop for morning tea and to wander the shops and park for a little while, as well as stretch the legs. We didn't have a long time in Victor Harbor, about 1-1/2 hours. I had booked the tour with lunch, which is provided at the local club (soup, roast and dessert). However, if booking again I would not include lunch as it takes a while to be served which leaves less time for actually looking around. There are quite a few places to pick up hotdogs, sandwiches, chips, etc, or grab something to eat on the bus during the drive back. There's also a café on Granite Island (closed for renovations during my visit), which you can walk to across the causeway, or for $7 one way/$10 return you can take the horse drawn tram.
