Walking Tour of Old Town & Former Nazi Rally Grounds

by City of Empires Tours Duration 4h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per traveler Price is $25

Stand where emperors were crowned and saints buried, and see the homes and works of some of Nuremberg's greatest historical figures. Tour the hub of the Holy Roman Empire, cradle of the German Renaissance, and temple city of the Third Reich—focusing on medieval Old Town and the Nazi rally grounds.

Meet your guide and begin your stroll through town. Touch the centuries-old walls that encircle it, and shop its lively 700-year-old markets—including the year-round Christmas Market. Observe traditional stained-glass painting and gingerbread-making in Craftsmen's Courtyard, and then admire the beautiful 30-foot- (9-m)-diameter rose window centered between the twin towers of St. Lawrence Church.

Next, take a look at the Imperial Castle courtyards, considered, along with the city walls, one of Europe's most formidable medieval fortifications. Refuel with local foods like bratwurst, kraut, and spicy gingerbread, and then take a short journey to the infamous Nazi Party Rally Grounds—the largest Third Reich ruins in the world.

Halt in what was once the place for Nazi rallies and see the courthouse where the notorious Nuremberg trials took place. Visit the Luitpold Arena that once held over 150,000 Nazis and was featured in Triumph of the Will, one of the best-known propaganda films in history—a somber end to the day before your return to Old Town.

The guide was late at the meeting point which is why I didn’t give 5 stars. The guide was very good and he took us on a tour of the old town. Plenty of time to take photos. We then had 40 minutes free time to have lunch and enjoy the Christmas market. It was then a bus ride out to the old Rally grounds where we did a walking tour. Afterwards you could go back with the guide or visit the documentation centre.

IExcellent tour around a beautiful city. Chris the young Australian tour guide was fantastic and his knowledge of the history of Nuremberg was outstanding. Well worth the money
