Sate your appetite for adventure and your taste for fine wines on lovely Waiheke Island. After a thrilling morning spent ziplining over the rainforest canopy, soak up the sun and scenery while you sip local reds, enjoy lunch al fresco, and sample gourmet goodies around the island.

If you're staying in Auckland, your morning begins with a scenic 35-minute ferry ride through the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke, where you meet your guide and drive to the zipline site on Trig Hill. After a brief introduction, gear up and take off down 3 exciting dual ziplines, reaching speeds up to 30 mph (50 km/h).

Soar through the trees and high above the sun-dappled forest floor below, taking in views of Waiheke's sandy beaches, rocky coves, and even Auckland's city skyline in the distance. At the end, trek along a mile-long (1.6-km) boardwalk during a guided forest walk for an up-close look at the island's ancient flora.

After all that adrenaline-pumping adventure, you're sure to be hungry—and thirsty! Head back down to the ferry terminal and meet your guide for the next portion of tour—it's wine time. Your first stop is at Stonyridge Vineyard, where a tour of the pastoral grounds is followed by a tasting of Bordeaux-style red wines and a delicious lunch among the vines.

Next, make your way to Rangihoua Estate. Check out the machinery used to press fragrant oil from olives and sample some of the peppery, perfumed extra virgin varietals produced here. Detour to Wild on Waiheke, an outdoor venue where you can purchase additional beer and wine samples or try their famous handcrafted preserves. After a final tasting at Mudbrick Vineyards, hop on the 4 PM ferry back to Auckland or use your all-day bus pass to continue to explore at your leisure.
