The property was quite clean and tidy, and the room was good-sized. We faced the parking lot despite paying a premium rate and booking 6 months in advance. The property is at the top of a hill, a long distance down and up a hill to other eating options. The only restaurant on site was expensive and had no moderately priced meals. No lunch was served. There is an espresso cafe on site with some old-looking packaged foods. They get high marks for coordinating with Alaska Rail for transportation and luggage handling. There was a fire alarm at 1:30 in the morning forcing everyone to evacuate. There was no management present to tell bewildered guests what to do, and no explanation was given the following morning about what happened. I would put this hotel’s management in the category of an average Motel 6 or Holiday Inn. Luckily the beauty of Denali overshadowed these shortcomings.

Attractive area with continued improvements being made. Early in season, so many staff were still learning, but all friendly and eager to assist. Lots of landscaping to complete.

We were there early in the season so I think things weren’t quite up to speed yet. They didn’t have a full staff so no cleaning of rooms without a special request etc. overall it was a nice place with a good view and they were very accommodating.

gorgeous location but inconvenient without a car
This is the most gorgeous location of any hotel in the McKinley Park area. However, it is quite a long, steep, muddy hike to get up to the hotel from the town / restaurants below. Dining options are very limited at the Lodge and the hotel's shuttle bus only runs every hour, ending by 8 or 9PM. This is quite early given that Alaska has long hours of daylight and tours often don't end until late. I would only recommend staying here if you have a car

The staff were so polite and helpful. They proactively reached out us a number of time, by text, prior to our arrival. The day we were arriving by train I texted them to let them know that our train was running an hour and a half behind schedule and inquired about dinner options. They quickly responded and offered to make a reservation at their restaurant. Our dinner was delicious and the sunset view was beautiful.

First off, Denali is about 100 miles away. The rooms are old and musty. The bar was super expensive. It was $14 for a bowl of vegetable soup. Staff was friendly. Entire place needs a facelift.

The Grand Denali has frequent shuttles to and from the town of Denali, the train station, the park visitor center, and more. The view from our room was awesome, and the restaurant meal was delicious.

One issue with the property is the long and twisting drive up a steep hill to the property on a combination of gravel and asphalt road, which make it a less convenient than other places off the main road. However, this can provide some very nice views. The food options, service and pricing at the property is poor - as it caters to tour groups and they have a captive audience. You can't walk to other restaurants.
