"This is an extraordinary place, beautifully nestled at the top of a narrow tree-lined road, designed to blend into the landscape. It's high, and the view of the sea is grand. Well appointed, with a salt-water pool and very nice communal areas. We stayed only one night, a stopover between Kona airport and the drive to Hilo. We left thinking we would like to stay again, perhaps stay two nights. Lovely hosts. "

"The property is pretty and convenient to a beach. The room and the property itself was clean. The share shelves were a nice touch. The facility is very primitive, meaning there is NO A/C, no staff onsite and no housekeeping. None of these things are bad if it's what you're expecting; however, this listing on Expedia does not mention any of these things, so it was a great disappointment to arrive and find out about the lack of AC and housekeeping. "The Staff, the Luau, the location, and view from our balcony were great. It was noisier than I would have liked with kids in the pool and adults late at night. Also the rules about the daily card/towels were unclear. We were never charged but it was inconvenient to not be able to get towels before 8am and not be able to keep them over night."

"This was our second time staying at the Kona Castle Reef . This oceanfront unit was comfortable, tidy and an excellent layout. Some of the lighting fixtures seemed dated and Could use replacement . Having the bbq’s there as an alternative cooking option was fantastic. We can’t wait to visit again next year and hopefully secure the same unit as we did this time ."
