Reserva Amazonica is a beautiful property located 40mins by bost from Puerto Maldonado. We spent 2 nights there and generally had a good experience. The lodges are beautiful, clean and well equipped and staff is really nice and attentive. The nature surrounding the hotel is beautiful and there are some small animals / birds that can be found on property. The included excursions are interesting (we mostly enjoyed the canopy walk and lake Sandoval). Unfortunately, we were there during a cold spell and we only had limited animal sightings. A few points for improvement: 1) We didn't have hot water at any point during our stay. Probably ok when it's super hot outside, but not good when the weather is cold 2) Our flight was slightly delayed and we arrived at 15:30 the first day. Lunch was extended to accommodate us, which was great, but there was no communication/ discussion about the details of the excursions, which we only found out during the night boat ride. Would have been good to be able to choose what excursions we wanted, or at least have the schedule upfront so we know what we're doing 3) The SPA is not equipped for cold weather (it's an open building like the lodges) and the massage was not enjoyable due to the room being too cold.

Needs an overhaul to improve quickly
Need a major overhaul since it was built in 1975. Rooms and dining areas were not water proof from tropical storms. We slept on a wet bed! Most of the staff were very nice people but they will do well from some training to expect requests that are not formula. Food was ok for 3 stars. The excursions were good but some times tiring. For the cost, we had expected more.

Very luxurious lodge experience - but I got sick
amazing service, tours, and dining services. The host and guide (Alma and Hugo) respectively were amazing. However, I felt strong food poisoning (nausea and threw up) within 10 hours after check-out. IDK if I was unlucky or something in the food. However, I enjoyed all the meals in the moment. They even did a surprise birthday welcome sign and cake for my partner because it was his birthday trip. The boat trips to access the lodge were so surreal.

Lovely lodge, not much wild life
Excellent service, lovely property. Excursions weren’t great - we saw very little wild life, although perhaps that was due to rain, and many of the offered excursions seemed to be on inkaterra property. Perhaps the lodge is not well-located for seeing wildlife - the best excursions incurred extra cost because they were far away. We didn’t have water in our cabin one night - couldn’t even wash our hands - which is not great at this price point. Other than that, cabin was very comfortable and staff very helpful. Food was good and plentiful.

Relaxing All-Inclusive Jungle Oasis
Absolutely incredible trip! The staff at Inkaterra makes all the difference. I sent them our flight arrival and departure times and they took care of the rest! We were picked up at the airport, took a bus for 10 min, then a boat for 30 min and landed in paradise. Freddy recommended a perfect itinerary for us. We were given a schedule of meals and didn’t have to think about a thing. Extra thanks to Freddy (our amazing and knowledgeable guide) and Ruth (a brilliant masseuse who helped eased my muscles after Machu Picchu). I would come again and recommend this to my family and friends.

Great Location, Poor service/communication/organizational skill The lodge is located ~1 hour boat ride from Puerto Maldonado. You will get picked up at airport and transported to the lodge which is on the banks of the Madre de dios river. The property and the lodge is pristine, but the communication of staff was very poor. You get assigned a guide and a concierge to look after you for the trip. This is what defines your trip. If you get a good guide you have a good trip. We got a really bad guide who was totally disinterested and did not explain anything. Our concierge guy took off for his holiday for 2 days and there was no one looking after us. After one excursion, we asked (3 different people) to change our guide. Finally we were assigned a new guide (by asking us to tag along with other groups). The new guide was great and we tipped him well. However the managers of the property are not well placed to handle situations where guides/concierge are not good. Some of the restaurant staff are friendly, and some are really rude. If you ask something like hot water, the staff might ask you to go get it yourself. IMPORTANT TIP: If you don't like your guide, change it. It will define your experience. This reserve could be great if only they focus on hiring only the best staff and having zero tolerance for disinterested staff. Most people come here for 3-4 days.

Great adventure in the Amazon!
Definitely a unique experience in the Amazon at Inkaterra. Highly recommend to people looking for a unique adventure. There was a range of activities that allow you to experience the Amazon in different ways. I recommend 3 nights, which give you 2 full days. I dont feel like you need any more or less time to experience everything and relax (always time for a "siesta!"). The food was great. Service was also fabulous. Note when you are booking -- the food cost for breakfast lunch, and dinner is included with your room, but all drinks are paid for a la carte. The cabanas were more like cabins. Not a ton of privacy since there are screens around each cabana with shdes for privacy, but that is it. In my opinion, it was more like upscale "glamping," which I enjoyed, but may not be right for everyone! No internet or cell service available in this location!

Great chance to see jungle & eat fresh vegetables
We really enjoyed the excursions included with our stay. The boat rides and hikes allowed us to safely view birds and other animals without unnecessarily disturbing the animals or putting ourselves at risk. The tent cabins were comfortable and listening to the sound of the birds at night was very peaceful. The food at the restaurant was good, especially because they used filtered water to wash the vegetables. During most of our trip, we avoided salad, so it was nice to enjoy it at Inkaterra. We also appreciated hearing about their ongoing collaboration with researchers, which allows the guides to present up to date information about the wildlife.

A lovely and unique experience. I had expected this to be more rugged but was somehow a perfect combination of luxury and outdoors. Surprisingly few bugs at least during our stay at end of august. Guides were superlative. Was a bit disappointed that clay luck was at additional cost and required 4:30am departure due to distance from lodge. Only other quibble was that menu limited and food not at same level as everything else.

Easter Adventure in the Jungle
Had an amazing three day jungle adventure at Inkaterra Amazonica from the minute we landed at the airport we were picked up in a luxury bus and then transported by river boat to our cabanas - which were very nice & comfortable. The food and service was top notch and the day expeditions great fun. We got to see a sloth, tarantulas, monkeys, otters, birds and lots of other interesting stuff. Plus it was great just to relax in our hammocks inside the porch of the cabanas and watch the river. Highly recommended!!

Beautiful lodging but needs improvement
I arrived to Inkaterra early and was greeted in a manor that left me feeling spoiled. But,that was short lived. Upon arrival I was introduced to our guide, which we were told to meet at 3pm. We ate lunch and relaxed until 3 pm when we walked to the excursion area. Oddly so, our guide walked out as we arrived (we assumed he'd be right back being that we were both told to meet at 3 pm) We informed another staff member inside whom we were waiting for and they replied ok and went upon there business. After 25 minutes of waiting arounds like fools the gentleman said perhaps come back at 4:30 and your guide will be here.Confused, we obliged. We went to our rooms to waste some time and arrived back at the excursion lodge where we waited 15 minutes for the again no-show guide. Finally we were told by the same gentlemen who originally asked us to come back perhaps he'll be our guide. This was fine! ANYBODY could have taken us- we just wanted to go on any excursion. So, he invited us to join his 6pm excursion in which we went back to the room and waited again. By this point my nerves were shot and I was so irate that i'd wasted so much time waiting for some guidance/info that the 6pm excursion was hard to enjoy almost feeling like we were invited out of pity. They need better organization and leadership because there was a serious lack of communication somewhere and my trip was at cost. Other than that food was great and lodging was beautiful but I only had 1 day to make up for lost time

Beautiful hotel but not for those that need to be "connected" all the time. No wifi and limited electricity. We loved it of course! The activities they plan daily were great and our guide was awesome! The food is so so. I wish they would have had more Peruvian dishes rather than pasta with tomato sauce. Also they get a little tricky with the billing. They say water is included however when asked they brought a glass bottle of water for the table and later we were charged for it. I am fine paying for water but when I am paying top dollar for an all inclusive and am offered water I expect to be brought the type of water included in my package. The rooms are rustic but very comfortable. At night it gets a little active with the wildlife but that's what you're there for. Just make sure your door is shut all the way so critters dont crawl in. ;)

Luxury in the Peruvian Amazon!
Our experience at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica was terrific from start to finish! When we arrived at Puerto Maldonado airport, a rep from the lodge was already there waiting for us and the transfer from airport to the port and then by boat to the lodge all went very smoothly. When we arrived, there was a detailed explanation of all the facilities and a briefing of the activities available. This hotel is all inclusive and every single staff that we encountered during our 3 night stay was friendly and professional! They served delicious Peruvian food and the naturalist guides were all very knowledgable and we thoroughly enjoyed all the activities. We got a room overlooking the river which was very private and the rooms were very clean and the turndown service was great! Considering that we were in the jungle, the shower had good pressure and we never ran out of hot water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a bit of luxury while exploring the Peruvian Amazon!

Staff and service are superb
They do a great job for the hotel service in the middle of a wild jungle. The staff are very kind and responsive to your needs. And they are very friendly to trained service animal or pets. Felt safe and relaxed at the place. One suggestion is to arrange the evening house keeping earlier than sunset, so that there would be a lower chance for mosquitoes to get in the room following the lights inside and the lamps while the staff open the door.

Comfortable & Great Execution
I knew going in that this was not "roughing it". This is a very elegant & well planned resort that gives you a taste of the Amazon basin in a quality package. The pick-up from the airport was flawless & the ride in the jungle truck & the boat ride up river to the resort were fun intros to the area. The ground, rooms, dining lodge, food - they were all really high quality & the service friendly & welcoming. On the first afternoon, we were given an orientation on the excursion choices which allowed us to set-up our experience. Everything went off without a hitch - it was a completely satisfying stay. I give special credit to the guides who explain to guests straight away that this is not a zoo - there will not be animals spilling out of the jungle...they are shy so it is kind of "catch as catch can". This is an important concept so that visitors aren't disappointed that the outings are not crammed with animal sightings. I admired them putting this topic on the table from the outset.

Great Stay
We had an amazing stay at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. The lodge is as luxurious as can be in the middle of the jungle. We stayed in a lovely little cabana. Service was excellent from pick up at the airport through checkout. Meals and excursions are included in the cost. We did decide to do one excursion that cost extra, a fishing trip. It was a lot of fun, definitely worth the cost to go fishing for piranha! Our nature guide was great, but he was sick one afternoon of our stay and we went on a hike with another guide who did not seem as knowledgeable or interested. The only negative I can think of is that lunch is not included on checkout day and no one told us this until we were ready to eat lunch after checking out of our room. We had to pay $30 for lunch since there's no where else to eat around. I just wish someone would have let us know.
