Oura is perfect for a peaceful, ocean vacation. The town is close to the amenities and attractions of Albufeira and convenient to top Algarve destinations. Spend a day exploring Albufeira Old Town, take a daytrip to Portimão for shopping and dining or head to one of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches.
Praia da Oura is an expanse of soft, golden sand and striking red and brown rock formations. The beach is east of Albufeira in the Areias de São João neighborhood. At low tide, beachgoers walk all the way to Praia dos Olhos de Água to the east. The water temperatures are cool and there are generally small waves to contend with, but nothing overwhelming. Explore small caves and coves created by the sand and rock. Be aware that the ocean current is generally stronger near the caves. Several watersports are available at the beach, including Jet Skiing and parasailing.
If you enjoy a lively nightlife with a comfortable place to return home at night’s end, stay in Oura. It’s close to Albufeira’s famous Strip area, with countless bars and clubs. Plan to stay out late. Many of the clubs don’t get full until after midnight.
From Oura, discover Albufeira Old Town. Visit the Museu Municipal de Arqueologia to see its impressive collection of Roman and medieval artifacts, the neoclassical Igreja Matriz church and the lively Albufeira Old Town Square, a wonderful spot for people-watching. For more ocean time, swim at one of Albufeira’s two beaches, Praia do Túnel or Praia dos Pescadores.
Take a daytrip to Portimão, one of the Algarve’s largest cities. Shop along pedestrian-friendly streets and enjoy fresh seafood at the many restaurants. Wander along the picturesque promenade, converted from the city’s original fishing docks, to the old town’s peaceful plazas.
Reach Oura by car or on foot from Albufeira Old Town. It’s a 15-minute drive or 40-minute walk. Park on the street with beach access or in the village’s large metered parking lot.
