Uptown Charlotte, NC

Charlotte
Charlotte featuring outdoor art
With residential areas, Fortune 500 company headquarters, ballparks, theaters and museums, the heart of Charlotte is a top tourism choice.

Visit Charlotte Center City’s diverse wards for varied attractions, from historic landmarks to professional ballparks and top museums. Four numbered wards, as well as Uptown and the Historic South End, make up this bustling area.

Center City showcases historic cathedrals, soaring skyscrapers, contemporary museums, restaurants and shopping along an area that was once a Native American trading route. The pedestrian-friendly wards spread out from the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets. Consider the self-guided Liberty Walk to familiarize yourself with the city’s important landmarks.

In the First Ward visit the popular 7th Street Public Market, with a wide selection of gourmet treats, baked goods, produce and handmade gifts. It’s also the area to find entertainment at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

From the First Ward, walk to the Second Ward, where many of Charlotte Center City’s hotel rooms are located, as well as the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This high-tech museum celebrates the history of NASCAR, with racing simulators, historic cars and interactive exhibits.

The Third Ward showcases sports. Visit BB&T Ballpark, where the city’s minor league baseball team plays, and Bank of America Stadium, home to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Let the kids run around in Romare Bearden Park, across from BB&T Ballpark and the perfect place for skyline photos of the city.

Join a walking tour of the Fourth Ward to learn about the area’s heritage and take photos of the eye-catching Victorian architecture. For families there are the fun, hands-on learning laboratories of the Discovery Place Science museum.

Discover Center City’s arts and culture at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, with works from Miró, Picasso, Warhol, Le Corbusier and more. Move on to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, celebrating contributions to American culture by African-Americans through music, dance, art, theater and educational programs.

Find Charlotte Center City and its walkable four wards within the inner highway loop, near the Bank of America and Duke Energy headquarters. Travel around easily via bus, bike-sharing, ride-sharing and light rail.

Visit this big-city neighborhood with a small-town heart for a weekend getaway or combine it with other areas of North Carolina for a weeklong vacation.
