Gorgeous Eco Lodge experience, far from town

Posted Apr 9, 2015
Pros: Grounds were gorgeous. Lots of wildlife and butterflies. Great views of volcano.
Cons: Update facilities a bit.
Location: Remote location. Hanging bridges and canyoning very close. Not too far from hot springs or entrance to volcano.
The hotel has gorgeous grounds. Facility is a bit dated and the distance is far from town...driveway alone is 5 mins of very bumpy roadway. Staff is very friendly and hanging bridges are only a 10 minute drive away (great experience with a guide to show you all the animals and birds).

Isolated

We spent three nights at the hotel. The road to the hotel was like the Ho Chi Min trail after a B52 raid. 8 minutes of terror getting up the private road. Hotel staff very courteous and friendly. Facilities dated and in need of repair. Our room was very large and clean. No A/C and 4 channels of TV. Complimentary breakfast good and filling. Supper menu varied, good and reasonably priced. View of the volcano excellent. Evenings quiet, as it was about 30 minutes by winding road to town. All in all, good place to spend quiet, safe time in Arenal.

Half way up a mountain.

Posted Mar 14, 2015
Pros: The grounds are fine with birds and animals.
Location: Nothing close due to location, 10 miles from La Fortuna
Rained for three straight days, volcano not visible, like being in the cloud forest. The road to the hotel takes 15 minutes up a winding mountainside, only to be driven in daylight. No heating in the rooms bed and clothing damp. On the website it stated only a few rooms available, when in fact hotel was almost empty.

What You Need To Know...

Posted Feb 26, 2015
Pros: The service was Great. The location is very relaxing. The birds were gorgeous & absolutely loved the pools & Jacuzzis.
Cons: We went to get breakfast at 9AM and there was no food left. Very disappointing since this was a complimentary breakfast. THERE WAS NO WIFI!!
Location: This is a key point! There is not a lot to do nearby unless it's an excursion - which is extra money!
Our experience was both positive and negative. The travel distance is a little further than most hotels. Once you reach Arenal Lodge, you will go up a 10 minute driveway. One BIG NEGATIVE was the WIFI was horrible - never worked! Lots of guests were complaining and nobody did anything about it! Once arriving, the staff provided us with a fruit drink at the reception. The staff member was very courteous by showing us the map and giving us all the details. We really appreciated that. While waiting there was a person who worked there (tour guide!) named Jessie. She was friendly and polite. She provided us with numerous ideas and options that we could do. HOWEVER, I want to make sure this is clear. I went back to the hotel room and called the places that she provided and found that they were significantly cheaper if I bought them directly with the excursions. She left out some key details. Our room was nice. Everything was unplugged (I'm sure they are trying to conserve energy - but things like the fridge could have been turned on for guests that were arriving) The microwave did NOT work & the coffee pot did NOT come with complimentary coffee. Once you get to the place … you really don't want to go back down the hill.. Also, for dinner I asked for a side salad - they said they didn't have one - but then offered it to the table beside us! FOR THE COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST - We arrived at 9 AM and there was NO FOOD - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The pools were great

hôtel proche du volcan et des attractions

Posted Feb 22, 2015

Nice spot. Great view of Arenal if the clouds lift

Posted Feb 11, 2015
Pros: Restaurant is consistently good with a great breakfast buffet. The baked French onion soup had the thickest most delicious broth I've ever tasted.
Cons: Not much, the road in is kinda rough but that's mostly determined by the landscape.
Location: Zip lines, walking trails, hot springs, waterfalls horses, atv tours, lots to do though rainy in early February.
Didn't have the proper clothes for the climate but there was a lot to do in the area. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel really nice, friendly staff. Stayed there for 6 days and it was really relaxing.

The view was absolutely incredible, but the beds were insanely uncomfortable. The food was horrible and you're so far out of the way, it's hard to get to a town to get more food.

Hotel in the Rain Forest

Posted Jan 18, 2015
Pros: It was ok
Cons: Food
Location: The parks in the area were nice, but it was much better in Monteverde.
The hotel was interesting being in the rain forest high on the mountain, the hotel had a view of Arenal Volcano, in which we could not see, because it always had cloud formation around the top of it. We stayed in the family suites, in which I think it is better to stay in the junior suites. The dinners at the restaurant was not that good, it was not fresh. I ordered buttered noodle dish, and it was plain noodles, no flavor. We ate at other hotels around the area.
