Good but could be GreatPosted Mar 20, 2015
Pros: Private, clean, quiet and comfortable beds.
Cons: friendlier staff
Location: Arenal Volcano, Hot Springs
I think that this hotel has the potential to be better than it is. I felt the front staff were trying to hard to create a experience with the check in, but after traveling so long we just wanted a quick check in so we could get to our rooms. We didnt need towels, and a speech sitting down on the couches about the amenities etc. It felt awkward and the guy checking us in actually rolled his eyes at us a few times. The hotel room was secluded and private and just what we needed for the night. I liked how there was a private sitting area in the back of the room. The hot tub was made more for one person not a couple. It was also disappointing when I asked the front when the restaurant was open until and I was told that I could not eat there because I would have had to make a reservation. As we walked to our room we noticed there was only one table of customers so we decided to ask instead. We were seated right away and the service although not friendly but efficient. I later found out the staff work from 6am-10pm and as we were at the restaurant at 9pm that is understandable. Overall the hotel was nice but they could do so much better in service. The staff do not need to act with an air of snootiness, they just have to relax and be friendly like every other place we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica.

Beautiful cottage-like room with sod roofPosted Feb 27, 2015
Cons: Staff could have been more attentive. I had to wait several times when I needed assistance.
We loved our stay at Mountain Paradise Hotel. It didn't seem like any hotel I have ever stayed at before. Grass and flowers were growing on our roof. There was a "waterfall" shower with plants growing in the VERY large bathroom. We had a very private deck with two rockers and a hot tub! We were right in the rainforest, and it rained a lot. Bring rain gear - even in the dry season because it rains all the time. I have already recommended this hotel to several friends. It was a lovely, very unique experience. Did I mention the beautiful grounds with all the birds? When you eat breakfast, you can see many different birds nearby, and breakfast was fantastic!

Some big pluses and a bunch of little minuses.Posted Feb 11, 2015
The staff was friendly and very helpful. The grounds were very nicely landscaped. Although we didn't use the pool, it seemed very nice with a swim-up bar. The restaurant was comfortable and had a great view of the volcano, although we never saw the top of the volcano due to the clouds. The food was average; nothing to write home about. The room itself was generally clean and the bed was comfortable. We had some trouble with the AC. It was noisy at first, and then spit out some ice that had built up. After that it was fine. The waterfall shower was a bit on the cheesy side, and really did not function that well as a shower. Fortunately, there was a real shower that worked just fine. The hotel is not within walking distance of town or the volcano park, or really anything. So it is a very long walk or car ride (or horseback ride) to get anywhere.

Hotel a La FortunaPosted Feb 9, 2015
Pros: Le personnel.

Decent hotel.Posted Feb 7, 2015
Hotel location was good- between the town of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano park entrance. However, there were ants (and other insects) in our bed constantly and all over our breakfast table in the dining room. When we told staff, they didn't do anything...

I loved this place!Posted Feb 2, 2015
Pros: Everything and everyone. I would go back in a heartbeat. Perfect if you want to be close to nature and in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
Cons: I don't know other than the fact that the volcano was cloud covered the whole time and we couldn't see it (who can I complain to about that, lol, jk!)
Location: While we were there we did an ATV tour. We went to ecocentro danaus, ecotermales hotsprings, cano negro and many other things.
We loved every minute of our time here. The staff are really nice and we received excellent service the whole time we were there. They went out of their way to accommodate anything we needed. The grounds are beautiful. Our 'casita' was beyond our expectations. I loved sitting out on the rocking chairs on our patio in the morning and just taking in the beautiful nature around me, the birds, the flowers, the tranquility. We even had our own private pool, but we didn't use it since we preferred to go swim at the main pool/wet bar. The hotel doesn't have a lot of rooms, so it never feels overcrowded, just a lovely place to relax. Most of our excursions had transportation included so getting around wasn't much of an issue for us. The one day that we didn't have transportation, the hotel arranged everything and we just had to call them when we needed to be picked up to go to our next location. For the whole day it cost us about $40. It rained quite a bit while we were there so they arranged for us to go spend a day at Tamarindo which is 4 hours away on the west coast (at a cost of course, but it was more than worth it). We spent the whole afternoon swimming in the ocean and then watching the sunset before being driven back to the hotel. The driver even pointed things out on the way and stopped so we could get good shots of howler monkeys when he spotted a tree full of them. I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica and I'm so glad that we chose Mountain Paradise.

Great hotel- WIFI only in common areas.Posted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: I would go back for the view and the room but don't expect much pampering from the staff.
The staff were not overly friendly upon checking in. They did not go out of there way to provide any information about the hotel beyond showing us where our rooms were and telling us that the coffee pot was free but the coffee to brew it was $3 a pack. We had to wait for about 30 min before someone could help us with out locks. Turns out we didn't have a key for our room on the key ring given. Also It has WIFI but only in common areas not in rooms. The room was amazing. We had the mid grade suite. Had a room with 2 twin beds and a separate bath that was amazing. The master had a king size bed with a master bath that was probably the nicest bathroom I have been in. Perfect feel for the rainforest effect. it also had a small kitchen. However the fridge was a wine fridge so only wine would fit. Went to the pool and was told to check out towels we had to put a deposit of $20 each for towels at the front desk. Not sure why because these towels are economy towels and nothing someone would steal. We just felt like as guest we had inconvenienced the staff and they tried to get every penny out of us. The breakfast was good but the restaurant was pricey $25-30 for average American dishes.

Four Star Resort trying to get Five Star Revenue!Posted Jan 13, 2015 on Hotels.com
We stayed 3 days prior to our cruise out of Port Caldera. Overall, staying at this property was a good choice. However, after we arrived we discovered that the New Year's Eve dinner of $70 USD per person was "mandatory". However, the dinner was a horrible experience. The food was buffet style and mostly gone by our 8:00pm reservation and we had to get up three or four times to get someone to service our table. When we tried to speak to the hotel manager, he had little to stay and did not want to discuss it. We also found a discrepancy as far as the shuttle to a local tour. They wanted to charge us to go next door to the thermals and in the room it said it was complimentary. They did remedy this after we showed them the difference. The hotel restaurant was very nice and all the staff (other than management) was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay overall.
