Nice hotel, close to the beach.

Posted Apr 6, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: The waiters had 17% tip included and did not seem to care about the service. The restaurants in the hotel were terrible, other than that the hotel was
Overall, we had a nice experience. The beach in front of the hotel is the best on the island. The waiters have 17% tip included and the service is not that great.

Great Hotel

Posted Feb 28, 2014
The staff was so helpful and friendly. The hallway and hotel rooms kind of smelt like there was some water damage. There was a lot of moisture in the air it seems. You could feel it on your clothes if they sat out in your room for a long period of time. We left our passports on the table and when we returned from the ocean the corners of the passport was curling. Other than that it was very nice and close to the beach. Great spot for your first trip to Aruba.

Nice hotel great beach location

Posted Feb 17, 2014
Pros: Location on the beach.
Cons: Update rooms and internet service in your room.
Location: This hotel is at the best part of the beach. Many great places to eat and shop close by.
Sadly, the hotel is closing at the end of the month. The hotel is in need of updating but the staff try to make it as comfortable as possible. In today's age, there should be no reason why there is not wifi in the room. The only place WiFi was available was in the lobby. The staff are friendly especially all the old timers that have been working at this hotel for a very long time. Carlos(pool staff), Frank(doorman), and Elvis(lobby bar) were great. It was just sad to see the other service go way down. Outside restaurant had poor service but good food. Nobody coming around at the beach for drink or snack orders. I really wish this hotel would not change to an all inclusive. This hurts the Aruba economy from the great local restaurants to the taxi service. RIU please keep this as a full service hotel not an all inclusive.

Westin should be ashamed.

Posted Feb 16, 2014
Apparently Westin sold this location to the Riu next door. However, while it has the Westin name on the top, they should have taken some pride in the upkeep of this hotel. Looks like they wrote it off. We won't stay at a Westin again based upon the way they exited this property. Just classless.

Could have been worse

Posted Feb 16, 2014
Pros: Location by beach and within walking distance to most of the high rise area.
Cons: The hotel is out dated compared to the other hotels around. I'm sure it will be great after it gets sold and renovated.
Location: Right by the beach within walking to all the other main resorts, casinos, and restaurants.
Was very worried leading up to our trip w/ the hotel closing at the end of the month but the overall experience turned out fine.

So disappointing!!

Posted Feb 15, 2014
Pros: close to the ocean
Cons: much improvement needed for cleanliness in rooms
Location: Enjoyed the casinos, beach
If I had known this hotel was closing down in 2 weeks, we never would have stayed here. When we arrived, we were switched to 3 different rooms. The first room was definitely not an ocean view, premium room. The 2nd room, people were still in there plus all of their belongings. We were so embarrassed. Finally, the 3rd room that we stayed in was quite disappointing. The sheets had not been changed from the previous people. There was sand in the bed. The remote for the TV did not work so had to change the TV channels by the manual controls on the TV. There was not sufficient towels and wash cloths. We told them at the desk and they said they would send housekeeping up. Never received them. The last 2 days ended up washing with the corner of our dirty towels. There were hairs in the bathroom shower and sink and quite dirty. They left coffee, but not cups.

The Westin February 2014

Posted Feb 14, 2014
The Westin is being sold and the staff were losing their jobs. Consequently the attitudes were not exactly hospitable. We were led to believe that Aruba was all about hospitality and this was not the case at this time at the Westin.
