Great Location - Bad interior

Posted Aug 28, 2014
Hotel is in a great location, but the interior has not been updated in maybe 30 years. The beds and TV's are old, and the bathtub was disgusting. Hotel staff was friendly but didn't follow up on some items they offered take care of for me. They don't have any amenities besides the breakfast which was poor. For example, I called down to ask the front desk for a bottle opener, however, they don't have one. That was a first for me. Anyways, if you want a nice interior, comfy bed, and a spacious room, then this hotel is not for you. However, if you want great location at a cheap price, then book the hotel.

Aging hotel in a good location

Posted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: Friendly front desk staff and good location.
Cons: Cleaning and renovation.
Location: Located close to trolley line, so actually close to everything. U.S. Constitution and harbor cruise were interesting
Boston Common is a good location just a block away from Copley Square and the trolley lines. The whole hotel was formerly The University Club, now mostly converted to a hotel. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Room was fairly clean, but old and rather tired, as was the bathroom. Complimentary breakfast was bread stuff, juice and coffee each day.

Mildew nightmare, suffocating smell

Posted Aug 10, 2014
First of all, it's an old hotel. Hasn't been refreshed since the 70s. The worst was the bathroom! The bath mat was covering a thick layer of mold, just repulsive! They cleaned it but I can't never forget this, I had never seen this much mold in my life. The room smells like the carpet was never cleaned too, the opposite of fresh. I will not be back

Disappointed yet Recommending it

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: Location .. Breakfast .. Free WiFi .. Dinning hall
Cons: They need a proper sign to tell that this is the actual hotel!!!
Location: Location in the heart of the city and near to everything you can wish to visit but you will be confused to reach the hotel the first time as no sign
I was disappointed about the hotel condition but maybe I should have not had high expectations as I knew before hand that it is a 2 star hotel .. Location is just perfect but finding the hotel was a but confusing and the sign says bch instead of Boston Common Hotel! .. cleanliness was average but I can not say bad it was OK and staff are not the very best I ever dealt with but they also were OK .. I still recommend the hotel for what it offers and the price it offers it for .. Continental breakfast was great I give 5/5 for that and the free WiFi was appreciated ..the dinning hall is very nice and cosy but a hotel is more than just breakfast .. once again, yes, I would recommend the hotel but just do not expect much if you do not want to be disappointed ..

Good location, very tired and not so clean hotel.

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Bathroom can be cleaner.
The hotel is pretty old and the rooms are tired. The bathroom definitely needs a facelift and better cleaning. The location is convenient and great though.

Paul Revere rode through there a time or two

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: We liked the location. And the free continental breakfast was full of variety and great!
Cons: The bathrooms need major updating!!
Location: Right smack in the middle of Boston common and everything else!
We enjoyed the fact that the hotel was right in the middle of the Boston Common and close to everything. For location and convenience- I would say that was a huge plus. The hotel itself is very old, the rooms and facilities appear to be outdated. The rooms were mostly clean but the bathrooms felt unkempt because of their age. I.e.- the floors appeared so dirty/stained that niether of us wanted to step on them.

Updating needed

Posted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Was nice to have AC in hot weather, but would also have been nice to open the window for fresh air in the evenings.
Cons: See above.
Location: Good restaurants and shopping.
This could be a much better hotel if the decor and bathroom fixtures were to be updated.

Nice location, but not very welcoming. Kind of a DIY place - not a lot of staff, park on your own, etc.

Better than what I heard from some of the reviews

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: The location is the selling point.
Cons: The rooms has to be modernized. The reception area needed to be renovated to avoid giving a gloomy unpleasant feeling. Breakfast can be improved.
Location: Close to big shopping centers, public library, Trinity Church. Boston Common and liberty trail are within walking distance.
The hotel is located at the Back Bay area and very close to the Back Bay Station. It is very convenient and the room is quiet. The complimentary breakfast is as basic as you can get. The hotel overall is very old and need renovation. If you are just looking for a clean room and a convenient location, this would be the one. We have heard some bad reviews about this hotel before. It would not be surprised as some of the rooms condition may be better than others due to the lack of renovation.
