Very unpleasan experience.

Cons: Honesty! And a lot of other things.
We arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon, expected a nice classic hotel. However, when we tried to check in at the reception, it had no stuff, we waited for a little while to be checked in. Get up to our room, we were shocked by how small the room was and it looked completedly different from the Cape Dutch room we booked on expedia.com. We then found out we got a Classic room and only one room is the Cape Dutch room in the entire hotel. As you can't see from the photos, the Cape Dutch is a much bigger and nicer room than the classic room. The classic room we stay in could only fits in a double bed, a small table and a tea set. There was barely space for our two small suitcases. We were very dissapointed, and the hotel staff didn't care much about it. The hotel staff justfied their room switching trick with the reason that there aren't enough Cape Dutch rooms, and these two types of rooms have the same rate, so it was fair for them to switch you around. Basiclly, they put up nice photos to trick people to book with them. Even if you are not satisfied when you see the room, you can't really get a refund, because it will be to late. The breakfast was not good either, not very fresh, and lack of choices.With the rate we paid, we could had gotten something much better than we got here. The hotel is deceiving, everything about this hotel is second grade. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Convenient location and great staff

Pros: Location within a three block radius of a grocery store, the post office, banks and numerous restaurants.

During my stay I found the entire staff, from front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant, both accommodating and helpfull. From finding a restsurant to eat at on Christmas night to recommending wineries to booking a golf course tee time the were spot on.

Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service and food in the hotel's restaurant Jan Cats. Pretty and spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Parking can be a problem in the evenings in their carpark so park early.

Good place to stay in Stellenbosch

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights this March 2013. We had a good stay. We choose this hotel because it is right in the middle of Stellenbosch. We liked the location. You walk out the door and you are right in town. This is an older hotel however it is well kept. It has older hotel tendencies. If you are looking for something new this is not the place. We liked the old vibe of the place. We had good dinners on the outdoor patio right on the street. The breakfast was very good and fresh. The underground parking made our visit much easier and it was simple to retreive and park your car. The staff was very attentive and pleasant. We would stay there again.

Very pleasant. There were a large group of students staying at the same time which did make it less impressive - with the usual issues this brings to other guests(hustling in corridors, urgency at breakfast buffet etc).

hotel is in great location but tiny rooms without elevator. Breakfast next day was pretty picked over but overall would stay there again due to great location right downtown.

We booked last minute when our original hotel was overbooked and cancelled on us. Its a lovely hotel and we only regret we didn't have more time to spend in the region. The town was really lovely (what we saw of it for an hour or so in the morning). The hotel staff were very friendly, very helpful and make the stay special. The room itself was large, well maintained and reallly comfortable. The breakfast provided was great, even if the staff were a little over zealous (asked us no less than 5 times for our room number - it was christmas morning and very quiet so perhaps they were all just a little too keen to find something to do) I'll be looking for an excuse to return.

Our second stay at Stellenbosch Hotel and pleased with our choice. Good value hotel and perfect location for walking around Stellenbosch. Staff friendly, breakfast was buffet style, reasonable choice. Will stay again.

Very average 3 star hotel....Very Centrally located in Stellenbosch. NO dressing table, had to do make-up and hair in the Kitchen....NO plugs elsewhere close to a mirror. Only received clean towels at 17h30 on the second day - hotel's excuse was it was still being dried. Room service took ages - had to phone again with the order. Overall good for a family weekend trip, as they have 2-bedroom apartments with kitchen.
