"Excellent hotel ideally placed right on La Ramblas"
An excellent hotel situated at the head of La Ramblas right in the centre of all the action and within easy reach of all the sites and areas. The hotel is very close to Placa de Catalunya where the excellent Aerobus arrives and departs for the airport. Upon arrival at the hotel we received a room upgrade as it was my birthday and wedding anniversary. The staff were very professional and easy going. The hotel breakfast is buffet style with a wide range of food available to suit all tastes. Breakfast starts at 7.30am which is great for beating the crowds at the nearby sites as well as getting to the Aerobus stop for any early flights. We enjoyed every minute of our stay !

This hotel was just OK. Some strange things...for example, the bathroom had a shower and toilet, but no sink. The sink was right beside the bed. The hotel room was extremely noisy from next door and also outside. But the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable...so with a set of ear plugs in, I slept like baby.

This hotel is in an amazing location off La Ramblas. However we were in a room opposite the lift and it was very noisy. Walls were paper thin so didn't sleep brilliantly. Rooms were clean. Hotel staff gave us some bad directions.

My wife and I took a three-week Mediterranean honeymoon trip, and Barcelona was our first stop. We chose Hotel 1898, and have absolutely no regrets!! They were able to get us into a room as soon as we arrived from the airport (far before official check-in time), and even offered to upgrade us. Our bellman, Jaume, was absolutely fantastic, friendly, and infinitely helpful.
The room was great - the hotel is very high-tech, with mood lighting, great A/C, and a spacious in-room safe.
The only tick against the room was the bed. I think that the bed was composed of two smaller beds attached together. This made for an uncomfortable centerline in the middle of the bed. Other than that, the hotel was immaculate!!!
The small issue was not enough for me to recommend another hotel. With the location, beauty, and service, I absolutely recommend anyone visiting Barcelona to stay at Hotel 1898!

Room was perfectly adequate as we weren't planning on staying in the room much. Tea and coffee facilities would have been welcome. Bathroom was very clean but the shower head was furred up and not very effective. The breakfast was too pricey and I think the hotel will be losing business to the cafe across the road where we could get coffee and a pastry for €5! If the hotel had offered this we would have eaten there. The location was fabulous and i would definitely recommend it.

pros - walking distance to everything
cons - bedding needs upgrade and TV, coffee machine would be nice, charging for a safe in a four star hotel makes it seem more like a two star....I travel lots and it was the first time in a four star to get penny pinched on a safe....put the batteries in and maintain it.

Barcelona's Old Town, the Ciutat Vella takes in the Barri Gòtic and the world-famous promenade of Las Ramblas. The former is the city's medieval core, a maze of atmospheric alleyways clustered around the splendid Gothic Cathedral. Quirky specialist shops and characterful bars and eateries abound. Don't miss the Museu Picasso and the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat, as much for their palatial settings as their content.
