Business trip to Bloemfontein

Posted Apr 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel was convenient for me as my stay was in relation to a business trip. The room was clean and comfortable and I had a very peaceful nights rest even though room looked out onto main road - appeared to be little traffic not sure if this due to easter holidays! Evening meal was fine as also was breakfast with a varied selection of items available. The hotel backs onto a zoo and has seating where you can see one or two of the zoo inhabitants in the garden area. There is also a pool although this is tiny and splash pool is probably a better description. Overall very pleasant stay. There is a shopping mall approx 10 minutes walk away although most of this was closed at the time due to easter good friday bank holiday - but a good selection of shops are located here.

Perfect.....except for the bathrooms!

Posted Aug 29, 2011 on Hotels.com
i reallly thought your hotel was of very high calibre except for one thing....the shower and toilet! no privacy in the shower as it was open to the room and it seemed that the toilet was fitted with something like a shower door so also not private. As much as friends can enjoy sharing a room they will not want to always shower infront of their friend!!!!!! On the uposide I must commend your staff and especially Jacob who drove infront of us to our restaurant of choice when we were unsure of the way....

Roar of Lions make up for sleepless nights

Posted Jun 15, 2010 on Hotels.com
Okay, as a South African visiting Game Parks is nothing new. However, on this occasion the the roar of lions was a welcome relief from what can only be described as an uncomfortable night. I have never liked the best and pillows of the Protea Hotel. They seem to have standardised on the same bedding regardless of hotel grading. This said, I choose Protea Hotel on this occassion because the hotel represented 1 of few credible branded products in this location. I was ungraded to a VIP room but in spite of this, the following represented negatives: 1. Uncomfortable mattras - get ready to be bounced around by your partner when she or he moves. 2. Pillows best reserved for a lounger. 3. Banging doors. This was probably the biggest negative since the doors have no catch or rubber dampner. 4. Stylish but impractical showers. I am not a big fan of open plan bathrooms. The "Bathroom" is essentially open plan with a shower cubicle and separate basin. Best your partner don't open the door for room service whilst you in the shower! 5. Staff did not know where world cup fan parks were. Positives. 1. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff - little they could do about my negatives! 2. Exceptional location - next to the zoo. Our room overlooked the elephant enclosure with the lion enclosure not to distantly away. 3. Clean - an important requirement for us. 4. I can always count on an upgrade as a platinum Procard member. All in all a reasonably good experience and my expectations met. For overseas visitors, a good quality hotel.
