Beautiful grounds, quaint hotelPosted Oct 28, 2013
Location: Close to all the nature parks
Amazingly beautiful lodge. Helpful staff. Delicious food in restaurant. Lovely grounds to stroll around.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, I am glad you found the lodge to be so beautiful. As your con you wrote “television,” by which I assume you meant the fact that there are no televisions in Monteverde Lodge. That is a decision we made a long time ago, and while sometimes people find themselves missing TV, we have found that more often people appreciate the opportunity to get away from it. We do offer free wireless internet throughout the hotel, so you can keep up with your essentials. I noticed you enjoyed roaming the grounds, which made me very happy. Our mission when we began the garden was to bring the Cloud Forest and it's creatures to our doorstep. We are happy to say that we have succeeded. The gardens have some truly special plants such as Tree Ferns, Imperial Bromeliads and Anthuriums. There are also many species of orchids, Hydrangeas and much more. As you continue to explore you will find the amphitheater and further down the trail the lookout point, a great location to sit and take in the beauty of the Cloud Forest or star gaze at night. When we started the gardens so many years ago, we rarely saw mammals on the grounds, but today it's common to see the monkeys, Agoutis and White-nose Coatis. Birds love the grounds surrounding Monteverde Lodge; it's not uncommon for the Three-Wattled Bellbird and other exotic Cloud Forest residents to be within view. The song of the Rufous-and-White Wren constantly puts music to your walk in the gardens. Sincerely, Natalie Ewing Chief Marketing & Guest Satisfaction Officer

Great place to stay but facilities need some lovePosted Sep 30, 2013

We had a great time in Monteverde and the lodge was a big part of it. They are in a great location which makes it easy to enjoy everything Monteverde has to offer. Once you are done adventuring for the day, they offer a hot tub, a fireplace, relaxing forest views and walkways to wind down.

Dear Brady, Thank you for your review. I was very glad to read that you enjoyed your stay in Monteverde, and thrilled we were able to play a part. It was great to read about you enjoying some of the aspects of the lodge, like the 16 person hot tub, the open fireplace in the bar (I hope you had some fun practicing your Spanish with Jeffrey, the bartender) and walking through the garden paths. It sounds like for you the lodge was exactly how we hope it to be; a cozy place to relax after a day spent exploring the Cloud Forest. I was upset to see that the “con” part of your review got cut off, as I would love to hear exactly which doors or windows you found that needed repairing. We would not want to leave any aspect of the Lodge broken, and certainly none of the windows or doors. If you can, we would really appreciate you getting in touch with us and letting us know what, if anything was not in good condition. We would love to get maintenance in there to fix it. Nice hotel - quiet and good food.Posted Aug 18, 2013
Walked around the gardens. We enjoyed marimba music on Saturday night at the restaurant.
Jan 10, 2013 by Natalie Ewing
Dear Robin, Thank you for your review. It made me smile when I read that you enjoyed the Marimba music. You may not have known it, but one of the men playing for you also brought the food to your table. A man of many talents, Michael Miranda manages our supply room and coordinates all shipping and delivery, working at the hotel from early morning to mid afternoon. He then assumes his second identity, and spends his afternoons and evenings learning music, practicing and performing with the band. They play all kinds of popular genres, including salsa and the marimba you heard. We love it when he plays at the restaurant, which he does from time to time. Please come back and see us. We loved this hotel!Posted Aug 16, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel has everything you could want if you are staying in the Monteverde area. It is centrally located and close to all the area attractions, which made it very convenient for our touring. We LOVED the décor and ambience of the hotel itself. The rooms were well-appointed and comfortable. All the staff were professional, kind, and so helpful. The restaurant and included breakfast were outstanding. Make sure you ask about the free movie that this hotel plays in a downstairs mini-"theater." The movie is about the Monteverde area, plant and animal species, and the Cloud Forest Reserve, and we felt it gave us some great information about the area. We watched it with a glass of wine from the bar!

Beautiful setting and well run hotelPosted Aug 12, 2013
Location: We went zip lining at Selvatura Park and took a nature hiking tour at Santa Elena Reserve.
We stayed 2 nights. Great setting backing up to open space. We had a balcony room and enjoyed viewing mammals and birds. The food and service in the dining room were great. Rooms were decent sized (even for 4) and well maintained.

A Lodge Experience with Incredible Wait StaffPosted Jul 27, 2013
Pros: Hot Tub, Wait Staff, Location, Cleanliness
Cons: You cannot book activities through the lodge. it would be helpful if they had phone numbers or could put you in touch with local operators.
Location: Tree House Restaurant is a must see and do.
This traditional lodge has a fireplace in the common area, room for eating, and a small bar. As part of the lodge experience, none of the rooms have TV's or air conditioning units. However, the purpose of going to Monteverde is to get out and enjoy nature and the local life. Both of those were far more entertaining than television. AC units are not needed since the temperature was between 70 and 77 degrees F. This hotel does have an very large, well-maintained, hot tub. They also have a laundry service what was much appreciated after days of traveling. We had our clothes back in 3 hours. The wait staff is what makes this a great place to stay. When I was having difficulty making an international phone call, the staff allowed me to use their phone, with no charges. I would not expect them to do that for everyone, but it was a welcome surprise. The gardens, local trails, and night walks, also set this hotel apart. Although the hotel food was excellent, you must visit the Tree House Restaurant while in Monteverde. It is an experience you will not forget.

We appreciate you taking the time to review our hotel. I am glad to read that you enjoyed the staff, especially the wait staff. They are an outgoing bunch, good fun and very focused on providing exceptional service, we are glad to have them. Your “con” was somewhat puzzling to me, as our receptionists do in fact book all area activities, with the exception of one, which is perhaps where the confusion comes from. The one thing we do not sell is a zip-line tour. The reason we don't sell them is because by our standards they are not safe, we inspect them every year as we would like to be able to offer this activity in these locations, but they are either built incorrectly or operated below our safety standards, sometimes both. With all other area activities it is our pleasure to call and set up reservations. Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, and I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay. I hope you can come back to Costa Rica and visit us again in the future. Location: ziplines, coffee tours, hiking,
My wife and I stayed here for only 1 day on our 8 day vacation. After staying in a Hot Springs hotel in the Fortuna area, and then eventually another hotel in Herradura, this hotel, although nice, was the least exciting of the 3. The grounds are beautiful, and we walked the entire ground both at night and during the daytime. We saw monkeys in the trees, and various birds, butterflies etc. The room was nice, but the negatives were- No TV in the room, small cramped bathroom, breakfast ends too early, and the windows do not provide much privacy from the room next to us. Positives- Close distance to downtown Montverde, really cool zipline tour was relatively close to the hotel. Nice relaxing time, if you're into that,

The hotel was very nice and everyone was more that helpful. Breakfast was included with our room and you could pick anything off the menu. They had many tours you could take, but since there was four of us, it was easier to go on our own. It was central to everything we wanted to do. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone.
