Exactly what I expected.

Posted Nov 24, 2014
Cons: There could have been more towels. The shower needs some new grout. The open layout of the shower left the floor wet.
We enjoyed our stay. The location can't be beat, for the U.W.S. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and small. The lobby and lobby bar create a relaxing environment.

Nice hotel well located

Posted Nov 23, 2014
Pros: Very friendly staff. Very comfortable bed and pillows.
Cons: Windows could be glazed better for traffic noise but appreciate it might be a listed building. More electric sockets.
Location: Next to the Lincoln centre ballet and opera house. near a metro station and in walking distance of many of the main attractions.
Helpful concierge. Slight issue with water not hot enough at peak times on a couple of occasions. Not enough electric sockets when two sharing a room. Saturday night traffic noises but ok rest of week but goes with the choice of location.

Pros: Location; restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: Old and really doesn't have room to make rooms and bathrooms larger. Could offer a little more - water and in room coffee even have a charge
Excellent location across from Lincoln Center. Very good restaurant- Ed's chowder House. Rather noisy on top floors as lounge on 12th floor very popular.

Nice hotel close to Central Park and shops

Posted Nov 22, 2014
Overall, a nice hotel and great location next to Central Park. Room was a little tired but very comfortable. Great shower and very comfy bed. Downside is the charge for wifi. Not acceptable for any hotel, particularly one that's aiming at the upper end market. Also the elevators have a mind of their own and sometimes stop at every floor on the way down. Very annoying if you're on the 10th floor! There's a good shopping centre (Time Warner Centre) just around the corner at Columbus Circus which is handy for some nearby retail therapy! It's also just next to the Lincoln Centre.

Room very tight and dark, needs a redo

Posted Nov 22, 2014
Pros: Location was good
Cons: Free Wifi and breakfast.
Location: Near Columbus Circle, walking distance to Central Park, Lincoln Center
Checked into the hotel with ease, front desk very friendly but door men didn't even open the doors when we entered and exited the building, just stood there looking at us with our luggage. Went up to our floor, elevators very slow and walked into a very tight, dark room. The bathroom needed a redo, shower did not work well and paint was chipping everywhere. Needs a overhaul.

Hotel was in a great location, great staff. Room was very small, not very well arranged making it difficult to maneuver and dress. Shower great, but bathroom so tiny there was no place to put things. Bed comfy so overall, it was fine for one night. Had to pay for coffee in room with coffee maker and pay for wifi. So, I used neither. Again, ok for one night.

Brilliant location but there are better options

Posted Nov 20, 2014
Pros: Across the street from Lincoln Center; good check in.
Cons: Condition of room; conventional sheet/bedding solution
Location: Lincoln Center - Met Opera/New York Philharmonic/City Ballet; Juilliard; Columbus Circle; Central Park
A great location if you want to be across the street from Lincoln Center/Met Opera, and within walking distance of Columbus Circle. Some good food options nearby but I didn't find any good pizza close by. Room condition was a disappointment. Water damage in multiple areas and an HVAC unit that had multiple dents and was rusted across the top. Earplugs were provided I assume because of street noise (my room overlooked Broadway) but that wasn't the issue. The problem was noise through the walls from the rooms on either side. I had no choice but to listen to detailed conversations on everything from politics to mayonnaise. Even for a 100 year old building the sound was excessive. I didn't call to complain as my neighbors on both sides were clearly speaking in normal voices and it wasn't their fault. The bed was made up in such a way that when you first pulled the covers down, you unmade the bed, exposing the mattress. Remaking the bed before I can get in is not something that I consider part of a quality hotel experience. My room had a connecting doorway to an adjacent room. Not a problem except that THERE WAS NO LOCK between the rooms. Simply a double door passthrough with no doorknob on the 2nd door for me to turn to enter my neighbor's room. Theoretically, this should have been okay but I don't consider dealing in theory to be part of a quality hotel experience, either. There are 3 NYC hotels I typically stay in, but the Empire won't be expanding that preferred list to 4.

Pros: See above.
Cons: Elevators.
Location: All is good!
Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Access to metro and shopping is great. In process of upgrading elevators. Doormen and luggage personnel very helpful. Front desk people are extremely professional.
