A bright spot on Staten Island

Pros: Everything, from parking to the employees to the spacious room it was great.
Cons: The pillows were....well, not good they could have been firmer.
Location: We were there for a family event and didn't explore to much.
To start, Nancy at the check in made us feel so welcome, we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. Lunch and dinner at Lorenzo's, the on premise resturant, was like dining at a 5 star location. A friendly visit from the man in charge and his wife just amde it more personal and friendly, especially when he spoke about Pittsburgh and the sourrounding areas we are from. I really wish my stay was longer but I can honest say that the HGI will be our place of choice to stay on S.I. from here on in and will recommend it to friends and family.

Location: Near family and friends.
Kim at the front desk was very compassionate. The location to highways and restaurants was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. Property is beautiful.

Club music until 6am spoiled it all

Pros: On the good side, the beds were quite comfortable and the housekeeping staff was quite helpful when we asked for more blankets and pillows.
Cons: Tthe water pressure was poor, the parking situation was substandard, the Wi-Fi Internet was flaky, and the elevators were slow and rickety.
We booked a room well in advance and only found out once we entered our room that it was below the roof top private club. We could both hear and feel the backbeat through the ceiling. Upon complaining about the volume at the front desk we were informed that the music would last until 4am. The staff seemed rather blasé about the whole situation and uninterested in working out some sort of resolution. They did check to see if other rooms of the exact same type of the one we booked were available to no avail. Quite frankly, we would have taken any room that held 3 people comfortably. We didn't have our hearts on the form factor. Apparently we were not the only disgruntled guests. Approximately 45 minutes later, well after midnight, the volume of the music was reduced considerably but it was still loud enough to be heard through the ceiling. At 6am the music was still audible. And note that I'm not exactly a cranky old curmudgeon. I'm hearing impaired. Let that sink if for a bit. A man with a hearing impairment thought that the music was too loud. Needless to say after a four hour drive from DC to NY after work on a Friday, I was in sore need of some z's. This Garden Inn was not the place to get it. Perhaps they should put a warning on the rooms below the club that they will be noisy. I can imagine some people would pay for the experience.

Location is inconvenient

Pros: Very clean and very good staff.
Cons: Something that clearly states the need for reserving a shuttle to the airport.
Location: There is nothing within walking distance of the hotel. If you don't have transportation, don't stay here or you will spend lots on taxi service.
They advertise shuttle service to EWR but it isn't available unless you reserve it. I paid $50 for a taxi and almost missed my flight because of this. There are no restaurants located nearby besides the overpriced Lorenzo's located in the hotel. Very inconvenient hotel for the air traveler to stay at.

Nice Facility But Noisy and Uncomfortable

Pros: Staff
Cons: Mattresses and reduction of noise from outside parties that continue beyond midnight.
Location: Quite isolated but only 8 miles from Cruise Port
Great staff. Nice hotel but room is very noisy from outside noise and bed mattresses (foam) are low density and sag significantly.

Quick stay for cruise tour

Went to check in and they had no record of my stay had to wait until Expedia sent my reservation. It never came they offered to check me in with a new resevestion or maybe I booked the Hampton inn. (Was an insult kind of that I would make a mistake between the two hotels.) never offered to call Expedia no worry really from the staff, until a more experienced employee came. She was able to work her magic and I was able to check in. I was never told that they had adjustable beds when I checked in. Yet made it to the room and had the hardest mattress ever was a very uncomfortable night sleep. Never thought that it would be adjustable just thought it was a hard mattress, been places like that. Never saw the remote for he bed. True I did not call guest services to complain, but never dawned on me. Woke up at 5 am when guests nearby left there rooms slamming the door, very little sound barrier through the door and could not get back to sleep due to guest after guest leaving. I told the ladies at the desk that I was going to the cruise terminal in Bayonne, they did not warn me the bridge was out. Took me an hour to get to the cruise terminal would of left earlier had I known. Overall bad experience due to bed and front desk was a very uncomfortable night sleep and would not recommend to my clients to ever stay there.

Cons: the pillows on the bed were a little to soft
Location: the location was good and the mall was about 15 minutes away
our stay was very nice everyone at the front desk were polite and helpful.
