Ladies in the Apple

Posted Dec 12, 2014
Pros: We loved the location and the size of the rooms. Free WiFi Jennifer in the restaurant who served us at breakfast was patient, attentive and lovely.
Cons: Management's behaviour to guests.
Location: Lots of places to eat and buy food. Transport easily accessible. Grand Central station a short walk away. Very close to all sights.
Enjoyed the location of the hotel, brilliant. The size of the rooms were good considering there were 4 in each room. We usually stay at Staybrige Suites in Times Square but decided to try another location. We actually got this hotel as a Secret hotel. Good value for money. The Management staff, in particular the woman on late duty on night of 2nd December 2014 is rude and unprofessional. We paid for the hotel rooms in advance, In seeking payment for the telephone calls made she threatened to call security unless we came down immediately and paid the bill the afternoon before we were due to check out the next day despite the fact we explained to her the person who will make payment was out and due to return later that evening. Very poor behaviour. Her behaviour spoiled what had been a lovely time for us all. She should not judge others by her own low standards. Restaurant Manager (evening) always smiling and friendly.

Great value - good location.

Pros: Room size & value, close to Grand Central & subway, friendly/efficient staff, good eateries close by, views of Empire & Chrysler buildings.
Cons: Some signs of wear and tear in carpets and bathroom fixtures.
Location: Mere blocks from UN, Grand Central, Chrysler, Bryant Park, NY Library
Was looking for a reasonable Manhattan hotel value for the week after Thanksgiving - trying to stay close as possible to friends staying at Pod 39 (near corner of E 39th & Lex) but determined not to spend a week with my girlfriend in a 10x10 "cell' even if it was a "bargain." I'm admittedly claustrophobic - and also at an age where I appreciate paying more for an acceptable level of comfort and space. As if by providence, I found The Court listed on Expedia - this St. Giles hotel was less than a block away from my friends, about 4 times the room size, and only $60 per night more for the same stay period. After my week stay at The Court was over I was even more glad I chose it.

This hotel needs to be renovated.

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
This hotel is relatively old and needs a major overhaul - the rooms are too dimly lit. The floor was not flat. The plumbing needs new fixtures. In spite of the physical condition, the hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Civilized ambience in the Grand Central area

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: The understated charm and the quiet at night.
Cons: If there is, I haven't noticed it.
Location: Crosstown 42nd St. bus to theatre district, Madison Ave. bus to museums, Lord & Taylor's, Grand Central Station, Rossini's restaurant on 38th St.
This was the third time we have stayed here, and we will be returning in mid-January. We have stayed at various hotels in New York, but the St. Giles Court is the best we have encountered. The staff is welcoming, and the rooms have a personality that is a relief from the colorless kind so common these days. The radio reception is superb, which is more than I can say for some of the hotels in which we have stayed.
