Convenient location: best of all, dog friendly.

Comfortable, convenient, great art on corridor walls. Only problem was a bedside lamp that I could not turn off. I reported this the next AM; I'm sure it will be fixed by now.

Adequate, but not a destination.

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: The staff made me feel welcome. I appreciated having a small refrigerator in the room. Common areas are inviting.
Cons: Well worn carpets in the hall, slow creaky and small elevator. Room had a typical older budget look and feel.
Location: No really a destination location. Not walking distance to much of anything. Reasonably close for visiting family at Maine Medical Center or Mercy.
I needed a reasonably priced hotel close to an event. The Clarion Hotel Portland did the job.

Nice stay if you need the airport or hospital

Posted Nov 26, 2014
Great staff. Room was nice and clean. Food was great. They provide a shuttle to and from the hospitals and the airport. Not far from downtown, either. Was able to walk to art museum and other places in about 10 minutes. Would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel in a great location for train!

Posted Nov 24, 2014
This place is great for a number of reasons. Close to the 295 and easy to find. Two blocks from the train station. Free cookies and coffee in the lobby at check-in. Excellent staff. Clean rooms. Easy check-in and check-out. I was very impressed and I will stay here again.

Convenient to downtown Portland

Posted Nov 14, 2014
Pros: Proximity
Cons: See above
Location: About 30 minutes from outlet shopping, only a few minutes from downtown Portland.
The hotel was a bit dated still orange and gold. Needs an upgrade for heating and beds. Room was decent, but the bed was terrible. There was no way to sleep on the edge of the bed because you just sank into the middle of it. Bathroom faucet was backwards, hot to the right, cold to the left. Heating was just a big blower, no temperature control, you had heat that blasted or none at all. Hallway and elevator were never vacuumed for the entire weekend, trash was piled up near the soda machine, ice maker didn't work. We never had our room cleaned, because we got back to the hotel at 3pm and it hadn't been cleaned yet. The small bar they had closed at 10, so no ability to get a nightcap after the hockey game was over at 9:45pm. Next time will pay the extra $50 to stay in downtown Portland.

Nice Comfortable Room

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Room comfort, location and friendly service.
Cons: I can't think of anything.
Location: The Clarion is located west of downtown approximately 1 mile. Portland is a walking free city with many adventures.
I visited Maine for two days. As a former resident of Portland I had a good idea of what location would suit us best. I chose the Clarion because of location. I also chose it because I worked at this hotel many years ago while in college. It was a Double Tree at the time. I must admit that it is just as well cared for now as then. Friendly staff, nice pool and hot tub.

Very helpful information about city. Very Important point: I lost my wedding ring in the room and told the front desk when we left. They found my ring, called the same day to let me know, and returned it as soon as I contacted them.
