Nice basic hotel in great locationPosted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Great location and friendly staff
Cons: Rooms are dated and a bit small
The hotel is in a great spot and very central to almost everything. Also a good neighbourhood with a lot of pubs and restaurants within a few blocks. The hotel is basic but clean and well kept. The room was quiet and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The AC broke and it got warm but they quickly provided a portable AC unit (although a little on the weak side - glad it wasn't too hot a during the day). The breakfast is quite limited (packaged danish and yogurt and oatmeal). If you are looking for a clean and friendly place to sleep while you explore San Fran then this hotel is good value.

Very friendly, free parking, great locationPosted Sep 18, 2014
Positives: Owner was very friendly and gave us all sorts of tips, advice, maps. Within walking distance of all main attractions. Bus stop around the corner takes you to fishermans whalf for $2.25. Also around the corner from cable car stop. Free car parking. Cable tv - including channel that shows english premier league. Can take breakfast to bed. Very clean. Very powerful shower. Very big bed. Felt like in a safe neighbourhood. Vending machines. Negatives Aircon very old. We couldnt get it to work properly. So slept with window open but extremely noisy outside with traffic and sirens. Had a wonderful stay. Would stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

Castle Inn/ Labor Day WeekendPosted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: Location, comfortable bed, continental breakfast, free parking, friendly staff
Cons: City guide and phone book needed in the room.
Location: Conveniently located on Russian Hill, eateries close by, Fisherman's Wharf/waterfront 3/4 mile away.
The staff was very helpful. This isn't the most luxurious of hotels, but it was clean; the bed was comfortable. The location on Russian Hill made it possible to walk the 3/4 mile or so to the waterfront. It did have a parking garage with free parking if you'd rather drive than walk. There was free wi-fi. The bathroom was a little narrow for my 6' 4" husband, but he survived! San Francisco is such a great place that we really didn't spend countless hours in the hotel room. The price was very reasonable.

Convenient but noisy...Posted Aug 29, 2014
Hotel was in a great part of San Francisco within walking distance of many attractions and shops. Building okay, room dated and the requested non smoking room had clearly been smoked in and the smell lingered. Bathroom coffin like with an impossibly complex shower mechanism. Big issue was noise. We could hear walking from the room above all night and there was clearly no sound insulation so this was very disruptive. Front staff indifferent and 'free' breakfast a sugar overload. Area very good for visitors.

Centrally located to high quality shopsPosted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: It was in a quiet location in a good, interesting neighbourhood.
Cons: Washbasin stopper needs an update
Accommodation felt comfortable, with easy access to Union Road and Polk St shopping strips which were full of great shops, restaurants and bars, the trolley car in Hyde St,and a very interesting neighbourhood to explore on foot.Manager Damon was a master of helpful directions.

Acceptable hotel near city center.Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Central location.
Cons: Rooms could be modernized and the rate reduced.
Location: All the attractions of San Fran.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights as it was fairly handy for the city center while with in walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf. The room was clean and comfortable but the rate was fairly expensive for what we got, but I guess that is because it is fairly central San Fran. The hotel allegedly offered a continental breakfast but we did not see any sign of this and could not see where it would have been served, coffee was offered!

This location-Russian Hill is superb.Posted Jul 23, 2014
Pros: Location ( health food market, gourmet burgers, Leopolds, 2 coffee shops - even a laundromat-all within 3 blocks)
Cons: I heard someone say the elevator wasn't working properly.
The hotel all-in-all is basic and very well kept. The valuable amenities are all there: friendly helpful polite staff, free parking, microwave, refrigerator, ice, and free internet, and good food quite nearby.

semi false advertisingPosted Jul 20, 2014
i am on a 3 week road trip and i only booked hotels with free wifi, free parking and free breakfast. this hotel's wifi was shotty on my husband's iphone, and my ipad, and my samsung phone NEVER connected. the "free continental breakfast" was served on a tiny bar in the tiny check in area. no dining room, no tables, no eggs. coffee, muffins and such. not quite a "breakfast". street noise woke me up through my ear plugs during the night. it is a decent price, and good location. but i wouldn;t stay there again.
