The hotel had a fun vintage feel to it. It was super close to all of the attractions. The staff was helpful and they left extra perks for thier guests.

Great staff especially Crystal Check in Clerk at the desk. Within waking distance of the river and several downtown attractions, shopping and restaurants....

Cheap and close to town

Posted Dec 1, 2014
On the cheaper side of hotels near the historic district. You could walk straight into town no problem, it's a little far, a little sketchy but not bad at all. The room itself had an ok bed and regular outdated old motel features but it was generally clean, safe and comfortable.

Hotel was close to SCAD

Posted Nov 30, 2014
Hotel was close to SCAD where we were visiting which was nice. Liked the nostalgic feel but could have been cleaner. The parking lot is very small with type fit for most cars. The room was not cleaned the next day nor did the staff leave any coffee for the second morning we were there. Would stay there again only if for one night.

I hate this hotel but I will stay here every time.

I'm currently in the process of moving to Savannah so recently I'm making many trips back and forth. I honestly can't afford the hotels on Bay Street (usually which are around $275-300/night). It's just simply not something I'm willing to pay. However, I want to be as close to downtown sooooooo I choose the Thunderbird every time. Is it a great hotel? No. Something is always broken. They typically only have ONE employee on site at any given point. So checking in/checking out usually results in a 15 minute wait while you stand in the lobby alone. The wifi? Useless. Every time. With all of this said, will I stay again? Sure. Best price and walking distance to everything. Just accept that you're not getting much and have fun walking to all of Savannah's best spots!

This is the place for people who are on a budget. Wish they have lower pet fee.

Pros: Staff was very friendly, professional and welcoming.
Location: location was good. We were within walking distance of historic Savannah GA
I was quite upset that Wi-Fi was not available in our room. Apparently three or four rooms had been without service for several weeks. Although management was aware, nothing had been done to correct the issue. However, the manager did waive the parking fees because of the inconvenience. Apparently there is a miscommunication between Expedia and Thunderbird. Our confirmation stated a 2 pm check in. Their policy is 3 pm and we had to wait an hour. Expedia confirmation states a $5 parking fee per night. They charge $7.50 per night.

The hotel was easy to locate and the staff was friendly! The room needed more attention to smaller details that stood out to me. A large rust spot on the tub, reusable shampoo, conditioner and lotion bottles in the bathrooms were a big turn off too! The curtains would not stay shut either and we were on the first floor- it didn't leave me feeling very safe with two children.

Cool little quirky hotel

An old motel that has been renovated to provide modern amenities but keeping a kitsch charm at the same time! In a NOISY location opposite the Bus Station and on one of the main streets for entering Savannah's Historic District, but this did not disturb us through the night. It is VERY handy to the Historic District - an easy walk! And also handy to the Trolley Tours! The only not so positive note was the "I'm bored at not interested" attitude of the girl on night duty at the motel when we had to check out at 4.30am. I asked if I could have/buy my room key for my scrapbook (it had a cool drawing of the motel and sign on it!) and she point blank refused to allow it, suggested that I buy one of their retro keys, which I had already done! Shame, a little thing but still annoyed me after my group (5 rooms) had stayed 3 nights.
