Fond Doux was wonderful

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Pros: Everything. The staff were so pleasant and friendly. Everyone does everything they can do to make sure you have the best stay.
Cons: Rooms should have standing fans besides ceiling fans.
Location: There is a hotel bus to the beach which is near and very nice. The Sulfur springs , Pitons and many trails to hike. Plus a wide variety of birds.
Our experience was totally positive. Everything was done for us to be comfortable and enjoy our stay. The grounds are exquisite, the cottages are well appointed and quaint, the staff goes out of their way to assist you and the food is truly on a very high standard. We would recommend Fond Doux to the most discerning traveler, one with very high standards.

Construction and not so private

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: The owners and most of the staff were friendly.
Cons: There should be more cocoa information. They talk about taking part in a dance but there wasn't any of that. They showed us dried pods and that's it.
We recently stayed in the honeymoon treehouse cottage that they brag about being secluded and private location. We didn't want to spend our honeymoon doing all the typical tourist attractions. We planned on relaxing and enjoying the rainforest. We quickly learned that we would not be relaxing and enjoying the rainforest from our cottage. Every day there was construction so all we heard was hammering, drilling, and the workers talking. We paid extra to have the secluded room and were not secluded. We got to see/hear construction workers talking daily from our 'private' plunge pool. Even without the construction the cottages are actually pretty close to each other and we could see multiple other cottages from ours so we weren't secluded. Heavy construction like they are doing should have to be disclosed. It's not fair for travelers to book a location like this that is supposed to be private and peaceful and to not receive this. Yes they did give us one night free after we mentioned something about not enjoying the construction but honestly I would have rathered stayed somewhere else then have one night free. We were really looking forward to having a peaceful private time and we didn't receive that. If I knew the area and felt comfortable finding a new place we would have but since we were in a foreign country we thought it was in our best interest to keep our mouths shut. The bed was VERY firm. We compared sleeping on it to sleeping on the ground when camping.

St Lucia holiday at Fond Doux

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: Very comfortable and individual cottages set in tropical plantation grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Close to lots of great things to do.
Cons: Nothing, it is perfect.
We spent six nights at the beautiful Fond Doux resort in the lush forest surrounding Soufrier and the Pitons. The hotel is fantastic with beautiful individual cottages. We stayed initially in Bamboo Cottage in the plantation grounds surrounded by flowers and humming birds. We then moved into Guava Cottage which had a view across the plantation and surrounding hills. Each cottage was in excellent condition and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel restuarant is very good quality and we also visited a number of excellent resturants in near by hotels. Would recommend Orlando's Restuarant in Soufrier as outstanding. The area around the Fond Doux has plenty to do. We took a guided hike up the Gros Piton, which is well worthwhile, and a great walk in the rainforest with our guide Lloyd. There is als a coast to coast hike which we will save for next time. We also did some snorkling off the local beaches with good coral and fish life very close to the beach.

Beautiful natural surroundings, wonderful staff

Posted Jun 9, 2014
Pros: Staff were amazing Free breakfast was luscious and varied with lots of fresh fruits Natural surroundings were amazing
Cons: The restaurant was expensive and the menu was small The beds weren't super comfortable
Location: Beautiful area, amazing beaches. A bit far from some more touristy attractions near Castries.
The Fond Doux plantation is just beautiful, the natural surroundings are peaceful, the greenery is lush. The staff were fantastic, they befriended my teenage son and made him feel right at home. They were helpful at every opportunity, always going above and beyond. It was a lovely experience staying there, and it made our trip to St Lucia fantastic.

An absolutely lovely and relaxing oasis

Posted Jun 6, 2014 on Hotels.com
What a lovely stay we had at the Fond Doux Holiday Plantation. I just loved everything about it: the lovely secluded cottages, the gorgeous grounds with extensive walking trails, the delicious restaurant, the friendly and helpful staff, the fact that it's locally owned. We stayed two nights in late May. Our first night we were upgraded to the 2BR/2Bath Avocado cottage and lived like kings with not another cottage in sight, total privacy for relaxing and reading on our front porch. I was a little worried that when we moved to the cottage we booked, Cinnamon, for the 2nd night that we would feel downgraded, but in fact, we both commented that we liked it just as well as the Avocado. The bathroom in Cinnamon was perhaps a little in need of updating compared to the newer Avocado, but really everything was lovely. I can't stop talking to people about the wonderfully special Fond Doux. Highly recommended.

Fond Doux Holiday Plantation

Posted May 29, 2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed here for 3 nights with friends. There is no a/c but it was very cool at night with the ceiling fans that I didn't even miss it. The food is pretty good, as are the cocktails. There is a nice tour of the plantation which is a definite must see. The plantation is a short cab ride from all attractions in Soufriere. The staff at Fond Doux is excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Staff

Posted May 20, 2014
Pros: I like it's character. You can't find this kind of cottage at a resort.
Cons: The cottage bathroom windows could use a new coat of paint.
Location: It's nestled in a beautiful part of St Lucia. Must dos/see: Sugar Beach, mud bath, swim in the waterfall, Tete Garden, sailing, scuba diving
This is a plantation turned hotel so you will not get your modern, up-to-date rooms but this place is very charming! The cottages are secluded and very spacious. We got the "jungle view" since our cottage was lower on the hillside instead if the island/mountain view but it was still beautiful. The staff are excellent. We were greeted with a cocktail while our baggage were taken to our cottage. In casual conversation we asked the chief if she makes fried plantains. The following morning at breakfast she brought us friend plantains (off the menu) herself! All of the staff really pay attention to details. Highly recommended!

Remote and relaxing

Posted May 15, 2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is in the hills about 15 minutes drive from Soufriere. Without a car, there is not a lot to do - a plantation tour and a walk up to the Tet Paul nature reserve were all we managed. The setting is lovely, with well laid out gardens, including an extensive vege garden. The veges are used in the on-site restaurant. The individual cottages are quaint and private. But being in the jungle, there were lots of mosquitoes and I am now covered in bites.it takes almost an hour and a quarter to drive to the resort from the Castries airport, over very windy, narrow roads. Definitely not suitable for those who get car sick! The staff are pleasant. But overall the price is reasonably expensive for the standard of accommodation provided.

Natural and friendly

Posted Apr 22, 2014
Pros: We especially liked the quiet natural location and the extremely helpful friendly staff.
Location: The location was perfect for seeing all St Lucia has to offer. It is close to the Piton's, volcano springs, the rainforest and the beautiful beaches.
This was a fantastic location for a peaceful natural Holiday. From the moment we arrived we knew it was a special environment. The staff where all extremely friendly and accommodating and our cottage situated overlooking the plantation was exquisite. The naturally man made cottage was perfect including a lovely four poster bed, outside shower, a plunge pool, veranda with a view to kill. The area is perfect for experiencing St Lucia at its best from the Piton Mountains, volcanic springs, beautiful beaches, snorkelling and the magic of the rainforest. The favourite tour we experienced was the rainforest walk, our tour guide was Mango who gave a great guided tour of the forest explaining the natural medical remedies and the wildlife including the Amazonian Parrot (we saw three). We also visited a cascading waterfall which was extremely refreshing made even better by a grapefruit from Mango. The tour was made even more magical when Mango took us to his farm where we picked vegetables which was then cooked by the hotel for our evening meal. We then visited his home where we had fish cakes cooked by his Auntie. There are not many hotels if not any that the owners buy drinks, chat and introduce the rest of their family to you but that is what Lyton did during the Easter Sunday party. The whole staff made it special from Catrina the organiser and tour specialist, Kendall at the bar and Philip who gave us a plantation tour. Our whole experience was magical and we will return.

BEAUTIFUL REVIEW - MOST APPRECIATED!!! Dear Ian, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us and others. It is always a pleasure to hear that we have succeeded in delivering another memorable vacation as we genuinely strive to deliver a special and natural vacation experience in a truly authentic location. We are delighted to read that you found the team here at Fond Doux to be extremely accommodating and friendly. We try our best to get to know every guest as we enjoy meeting people from all over the globe. The Hilltop Mango is indeed one of the most beautiful cottages on the plantation and we are happy that you found it to be perfect; the views from there are to die for. Fond Doux is the ideal base for visiting Soufriere as it is in proximity to most of the major attractions. We are happy to read that you enjoyed the rainforest hike and that it was indeed one of your favorite tours. Saint Lucians are generally known for their friendliness and warmth and it is heartwarming to read that Mango welcomed you into his home where you experience St. Lucian hospitality first hand. You are indeed quite correct, there are not many hotels where guests get the opportunity to meet face to face with the owners where they can chat, have drinks and to be introduce to our family members. We try our best to ensure that all guests feel special and part of our Fond Doux family. We will be sure to pass on your encouraging feedback to the entire team especially Katrina, Kendal and Philip for creating such a magical and special experience for you. We are happy that Fond Doux Holiday Plantation was able to do its magic once again. Thank you for your commitment to return and for your unwavering support of our plantation paradise. Best Regards, Eroline and Lyton Lamontagne
