A Pleasure

Posted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: The pool, breakfast & staff
Cons: perhaps the bathrooms need some updating & those "Do Not Disturb" door hangers should be readily available.
Location: The casinos, local restaurants, pretty much whatever you need.
Had the pleasure of staying there last summer & again this summer. A friend of ours stayed at the hotel across the street & altho their rooms are quite nicer (which you only sleep in anyway) she thought the Kacina was way better in the amenities category. Bigger pool, cafe & lounge (altho it never seems to be open when we're there). We will be back again next summer.....

Hotel in walking distance to Plaza

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: Location
Location: Upgrade the rooms. More help in the breakfast room.
Main building and lobby looked very nice, old, but stylish. We must have been assigned the oldest room, uncomfortable chairs, small fridge on the floor still had food from a previous guest in it. Bathroom was old and needed remodeling. No coffee maker in the room. Free breakfast was to be served, to chose from menu, in the breakfast room. Only one person running the fare. It took us 1 1/4 hrs to have a bowl of cereal and toast with coffee. I would not go back to this hotel. Sorry.

Don't go if you have high expectations

Posted Jul 26, 2014
Staff seem overworked especially in the Kiva restaurant. Front desk doesn't give you a warm welcome and are not helpful. The rooms are dated with old small TV's, low wattage lamps and dark carpets which doesn't engender a warm welcome. Our air conditioner was undersized for the room and had a difficult time keeping it cool. The WIFI service was intermittent and slow - to get decent service you have to hang out in the lobby area. The ice maker didn't have ice a couple of times. One the plus side the hotel was quiet and the housekeeping staff did a good job and was very friendly. Free breakfast was a plus. Hotel is 4 blocks from the Plaza - an easy walk. Showers were hot with lots of hot water. The hot tub is closed for the summer months we were told.

Yikes!!!

Posted Jul 22, 2014
Pros: The breakfast was pretty decent.
Cons: The hotel needs to be updated and thoroughly cleaned.
Location: The location of the hotel is quite good. We were able to walk to several shops and restaurants.
The pictures on the website do NOT accurately reflect this motel. I'm more frugal than most, but I struggled to stay here overnight, despite the cheap price tag. The walls were cracked, sheets felt damp, carpet was stained, and bathrooms were dirty. Everything was dated, and it was extremely small. Even if you're on a budget, do NOT take this risk….spend a few extra bucks on something nicer.

Pros: Ambience and charm are very good.
Cons: This is an "older" property in need of remodeling!
This is a very old hotel in need of remodeling! Breakfast was good and in a nice setting.

Restful & Refreshing

Posted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: Ah, the large comfortably warm/refreshingly cool swimming pool — with a real "deep end" — was my favorite thing! And the huge old trees.
Cons: A bit more water applied to the vast lawns during dry times, with seasonal flowers perhaps grown in large pots in that area.
Location: In the heart of traditional, historic Taos, right up against the indigenous Pueblo lands.
It's a blessing that a classic, large Taos "motor lodge" is still available to us all! It is lovingly maintained, without too many modern, pricey frills. Treat yourself to '50s thru '80s elegance, while not too shabby at all.

Pros: IT WAS CLOSE TO WHERE WE WERE GOING
Cons: MANAGEMENT SUPPORT NEEDS TO BE MUCH BETTER!!! AT BREAKFAST THIS ONE LADY WAS RUNNING AROUND DOING EVERYTHNG SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE TO HELP
so we arrived and the boy was in training and he did ok, however we booked thru expedia and they didn't have our info. So he went back to the office and the lady did find our info. She had said that she was busy and she hadn't had time to print off all the outside reservations. Ok that's good, However there were ppl behind us and there was another lady working to behind the desk and she never once said to those behind us that she could help them. The lady that was helping us/with the boy, had said that the other lady could help those behind us. Those customers said,"Well, she never said anything." So that lady needs to be on top of her game, when ppl come in. Then we had to come back to the lobby to get an extra towel, and again the boy was helping another customer. The other two ladies were nowhere to be seen. The phone kept ringing and I felt bad for the boy bc not only is answering the phones but also trying to wait on the other ppl. Finally, the other two woman came back in (im assuming went outside to smoke) and the phone was ringing again. The lady that was helping the boy answered the phone, and the other lady didn't even acknowledge me. Finally, when the boy was done, he did help me. Then at night the Indian dances they had-what a joke. First off they were over an hr late. One of them said one of the dancers had forgot his outfit, another older man said a key. Then when I think of Indian dances, I think of the fire pit going and a whole bunch of dancers-not just 2

Kachina/Taos

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: The location was good.
Cons: Correct advertising so that it is not misleading. Clean bathrooms better.
Location: The location is good. It is fairly close to the square.
A hot tub, restaurant, and lounge were advertised as available on the hotel premises. This was untrue. The lounge and restaurant are no longer open. The hot tub was covered and had no water in it.
