Don’t be fooled into thinking that this state is only Las Vegas, as it also offers Wild West beauty, forested mountains and mysterious ancient landmarks.

Drive along the wide, open roads of Nevada, cutting through deserts and mountains. You might be swept away in the romance of the American road. The “Silver State” contains Americana past and present, from mining ghost towns to the glittering lights of Las Vegas. Succumb to the state’s many pleasures, which go far beyond the casinos and hotels of “Sin City.”

Wander through the ruins of Hidden Cave, Grimes Point Archaeological Area or Baker Archaeological Site for insights into the ancient history of Nevada. These historic dwellings were the homes of American Indians who lived in the state for many centuries before European settlers arrived. Spaniards and Mormons moved into the territory in the early 19th century, before prospectors arrived seeking gold, oil and silver in the 1850s.

Indulge in the somewhat hedonistic city of Las Vegas, which is famed for its opulent casinos and extravagant hotels. Drive down The Strip, where you will pass hotels with a replica Eiffel Tower and Venetian canals. Gamble in one of the many casinos or simply admire the fountain shows and performances of the Bellagio, The Mirage and other famous gaming establishments.

Explore Nevada’s other cities, including museum-packed Reno and the state capital Carson City. Reno offers the National Automobile Museum and the Nevada Museum of Art while Carson City offers quick access to mountain hikes and resorts along Lake Tahoe. Experience Wild West attractions in Virginia City.

Escape to Nevada’s wilderness in Great Basin National Park. This staggeringly beautiful region is often overshadowed by the Grand Canyon, which means that you can explore it while untroubled by other visitors. Drive along Baker Creek Road and Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive for some of the park’s best views.

Flights to McCarran International Airport will take you straight to Las Vegas. To see the untouched beauty of Nevada beyond that city, drive into the state along highways for panoramic desert vistas and a classic Western atmosphere.
