.families, most descendants of these 19th century Moroccans
Other Moroccan Jews lived in isolated riverside settlements in Brazil. Rabbi Shalom Imanu ElMuyal, a rabbi, was considered a holy man, healer, and folk saint (for syncretic Christians
and members of minority faiths that emerged in Brazil), and admired even by gentiles or non-Jews in
Brazil. He is known as “Saint Moses”
