This lake is part of Tama River, and the water here is especially blue. It's a popular spot for weekend drives and day trips from the city, especially for those who want to treck or hike along the river. Okutama area is also very popular for their fall foliage in November.

This is one of my favorite places to get away from the city!

Closest station: Shiromaru Station on the Ome Line, approximately 1.5h from Shinjuku.

Very welcoming place. Staff do everything they can to help you. About 10 minutes walk from sakka lifts at Happo and hotel runs shuttle services to and from the slopes each day either direct to Happo, goryu or bus terminal and then bus take you onwards to the many other Hakuba slopes. Breakfast buffet is quite good. Onsen on site is great. One of the best places I've stayed.

Very honest offering. Reasonably priced. Not much amenities though, but that's to be expected at that price. Make sure you get your breakfast before 9:30 so you can order their delicious fluffy pancakes (seriously), but the rest of the breakfast was very meh.

Clean room, good breakfast. They had 2 restaurants serving breakfast so that helps with variety but a line usually forms but the wait is a few minutes. Half of the elevators were under construction so there were only a few in use and there is always a line for them and they fill up pretty quickly. ...
