In 1896, Montpelier was the site of a bank heist by Butch Cassidy and members of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, Elzy Lay and Bob Meeks, who were supposedly trying to get enough money to bail out fellow gang member Matt Warner.

"We could see the lake from our condo. It was clean and had all the comforts we needed. This includes fridge, stove, dishes, comfortable bed. We didn't use the pool, but it was just outside our door. You can see the marina as well. The water is so blue. Internet was a constant. We had a very fun week here. We will be back! "
