Ever wanted to go back to the 90s? Staying at The Lanterns Hotel felt like doing just that. On the bad side that means CRT televisions you actually have to get up to switch off, no WiFi (no matter what Expedia might say), no modern day double glazing to keep out the noise of the occasional 70mph car passing.
However, on the good side, the owners are friendly, honest, helpful and flexible (try getting that in a chain hotel!), the rooms are clean, the breakfasts are hot, large and tasty, the decor is charming and the hotel is well sited for Kilrush, Tarbert and an hour's drive from the tourist sites of Clare.
Overall, The Lanterns is a nice little budget hotel and the owners deserve to make a success of it. Probably needs an investor to install decent WiFi, television sets and maybe a bright neon sign to attract people driving down that dark single carriageway.
