Expedia.com Do Americans Really Get More Action on Vacation?
Bellevue, Wash. — February 6, 2002 — Expedia.com®’s destination activities and sightseeing options certainly help travelers get more action on vacation but a recent survey found that Americans really do get more action on vacation. According to the survey commissioned by Expedia.com, more than 70 percent of Americans agree that romance is important on vacation, with approximately 44 percent admitting they experience more intimacy with their partners when away from home.
Interestingly, the survey reveals some significant differences between the sexes. More men than women, for example, agree that romance is important (78 percent of men compared to 64 percent of women) and they have more physical intimacy (nearly 52 percent of men compared to 37 percent of women) while on vacation. The survey also reveals that parents are engaging in more amorous activity while on a getaway – more than half (52%) are consummating their love compared to those without children at home (38%).
Destination plays a large role in planning a romantic vacation. A beach or tropical island vacation is preferred most among men and women for a romantic or sexy getaway, with a cruise the second most popular choice. Active adventures and outdoor vacations are third, followed by excursions to popular European and U.S. cities.
So, where would Americans go if they could take a romantic trip anywhere in the world? Nearly a third (32%) prefer a domestic location, with Hawaii being the most popular destination, followed by Florida. Europe is the second most popular region (26%), with cities in Italy and Greece tying for first place, followed by London and Paris.
“Romance and a healthy sex life play a very important role in relationships,” said Laura Berman, Ph.D., sex educator/therapist and co-director of the Network for Excellence in Women’s Sexual Health www.newshe.com and author of For Women Only. “Often a romantic getaway provides an opportunity to reconnect and block out the distractions that can keep couples from being intimate as often as they would like at home. A romantic jaunt can often times help recharge those emotions and get couples back on track if they’ve fallen off.”
“With the majority of respondents from our survey citing that romance is important when on vacation, Expedia® has created some great travel deals to some of the most romantic destinations in the world,” said Erik Blachford, senior vice president of marketing and programming for Expedia, Inc. “Our Romantic Rendezvous section offers travel deals for all types of travelers – from relaxing tropical beach hideaways and spas to the thrilling slopes of world-class ski destinations.”
