Expedia.com Get More Action with Expedia Vacations

Bellevue, Wash. (January 14, 2002) — The most exciting part of planning a memorable getaway is deciding what to do on vacation. Whether travelers are heading for the mountains, the beach, or tying the knot in Las Vegas, Expedia.com®'s growing selection of destination activities helps them get more action on vacation – from the wacky and daring to relaxing and romantic to family fun.
In October, Expedia.com introduced create-your-own custom vacations offering greater convenience, flexibility and savings than ever before by enabling travelers to add flights and rental cars to their hotel rooms or vacation rentals, along with sightseeing options.

Some of the new offerings include whale watching excursions, hiking and biking tours, and kayaking in San Diego, snowmobiling and tubing in Vail, city tours in London and Paris, skiing in Park City, and horseback riding in Ixtapa. These new additions join popular activities such as dinner cruises in the Caribbean, swimming with dolphins in Cancun, snorkeling in Maui, and swamp tours in New Orleans. Expedia.com customers can even book their wedding at a Las Vegas chapel. Plus families and the young at heart can purchase tickets to a variety of popular theme parks and attractions such as SeaWorld, LegoLand® California, the Grand Canyon IMAX theater, Disneyland® park, Disney's California Adventure™ park, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando. Travelers can also purchase vacation cancellation penalty waivers or arrange ground transportation, such as airport shuttle services, in many destinations. Senior citizen and child discounts are available for some activities.

“Travelers rarely take photographs of their airplane or the taxi to the hotel. A great vacation isn't just about the journey. It's the things you experience once you arrive and the memories you bring back,” said Erik Blachford, senior vice president of marketing and programming at Expedia, Inc. “By adding more unique destination activities, Expedia continues to help travelers plan and book the entire vacation experience – from flights and hotel rooms to city tours and lift tickets.”

To create an Expedia Vacation, customers click on the vacation packages tab on Expedia.com, and enter the details of their trip – how many people are traveling, where and when they want to go, and whether they need plane tickets, car rental, or both in addition to their hotel accommodations. Once the travel options are chosen, customers can select airport transfers, sightseeing tours, and other destination activities such as cultural events, outdoor adventures and theme parks.

For purchased destination activities and services, Expedia provides customers with convenient printable vouchers to use as tickets, but can fax or mail tickets upon request or if required by the vendor.
