Tucked away, but still close

First of all, Sebastian was the best hotel staff I've ever dealt with. His ability to accommodate us and make sure every bit of our stay was positive was an exemplary example of how a service business should be run. The hotel itself was nice, quaint, and pleasant to stay at. Small communication issues like the breakfast place not knowing we were staying there were quickly resolved with a call to the management desk. Staff was nice and the view was great. I highly recommend!

A pleasant stay

Pros: The view and the ease of access to Dawn Beach, Oyster Pond, and the ferry to Saint Barths. Also, be sure to opt for an ocean view room.
Cons: The quality of service the staff provided was pretty disappointing.
Location: Great location in a populated by not overwhelming location. One of the best spots to relax in St. Martin.
We went on a last minute Expedia trip and were completely satisfied by everything except the service of the staff-- they just seemed disinterested in the guests. They did bump us from a marina view to an ocean view room which made all of the difference in hindsight. The room itself was large and generally clean. Although some commented on the poor quality of the bathroom it looks like they have renovated them within the past year and were very comfortable. Oyster Pond is a great part of the island that is developed but not dense or overcrowded. It definitely caters to the sailors on the island more than the cruise ship passengers/Americans (which is to say that's a good thing). The Captain Oliver's restaurant was overpriced and the food was just OK. Be sure to visit the supermarche at the top of the hill as well as the Quay Ouest restaurant. Both are more reasonable. Also, spend one day in St Barths; the ferry leaves from right outside the hotel and is too easy of a trip to not take it. Overall I would definitely recommend the place.

A jem of a spot, away from the madness
Posted Jan 4, 2013
Pros: secluded
Cons: needs a little touch up
Location: loved it
This little jewel comes with a few words of advice...this is a marina, not a beach front hotel. That having been said, many rooms have wonderful water views and the beach is a few short minutes away via water taxi. The staff is mainly french-friendly..be patient, they will get things done. The rooms are large...but dated and could use a little touch up...but nothing that would keep me from returning. Food is very good and there are several other places to dine across the marina or around the corner.

good for independent travelers who have a car

Pros: Sunrise & sunset!
Cons: I arrived midnight and no one was at the front desk. Finally the night guard opened my room, but I did not get a key until the next day.
Location: On the Dutch-French border on the north side of the island-- far from the airport-
Wonderful room, beautiful view of St. Barts. If you are an independent traveler, this is your place. If you need any help from the front desk staff, look elsewhere. This hotel is way off the beaten path, so be sure to rent a car if staying here. Taxi from the airport is $38 per person.

Just nice enough- not awful

Pros: My favorite thing was the view we had.
Cons: My least favorite thing was the water issue.
The room had a view that was something I had looked for. The internet was sporatic at best but we just looked at email once a day and it was only available in their lobby. The water was another thing that was annoying but that might be the city more than the hotel. The pressure was very slight and the water wasn't that warm even if it was turned all the way to HOT. The breakfast buffet had a pretty good variety and was consistant. The evening buffet was not 5 star but the price was $40 (US) per person and in my opinion not worth that much maney. We could eat cheaper and just as tasty with room service. The borchure picture of the room we stayed in was just like the room we had so that was not a let down at all.

Would book this place again!

Pros: The size of the room, the view was amazing. The staff was kind and asked me every day if my stay was going well. Restaurant was great.
Cons: That I had to check out and leave.
Location: Good location if you want something in a bay or next to a marina. Quiet area.
Even though I booked a room looking out over the marina, the staff put me up in the best room there. They bent over backwards to make sure I had everything I needed. Very kind and shared with me some good places to check out.

The staff was friendly and the room was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend! I most certainly did not want to leave St. Martin!

OK For 1 night while waiting for a cruise.
Posted Jan 13, 2012
Pros: Leaving
Cons: Arriving, bathroom, staff
Location: Too far from most things
This hotel was rated 4 stars in 2005 and that was probably the last time they did any work on it. The bathroom tile was horrible. There were places where it was repaired but in all respects a blind person could do a better job with a caulk gun. The bed was one of the cheapest and hardest ones I've slept on. It was almost as if I was sleeping on the box spring. It really isn't much of a resort. It has a small pool and a small beach. If you do go you need a car. To get to a major town you will need a car, or walk. I walked to the French Quarter (45 minutes, and I walk fast) then take a bus or hitch hike. The staff acted like I was bothering them when I'd ask a question. It's OK for a stop over while waiting for a cruise but there are closer and better hotels in Phillipsburg.

Captain Oliver's Resort and Marina
Posted Jan 3, 2012
Cons: No coffee maker in room
We enjoyed staying at this hotel very much. The view from our room was of the marina. You could see beautiful catamarants, other sailboats and sparkling blue water. The hotel had a european flavor to it. We also like the fact that it was a small, intimate place. The pool was nice and you had a great view of St. Barts. The hotel could use a little sprucing up. We would recommend this hotel and would consider coming back.

February 2012 trip

Captain Olivers is a good option for someone who is coming for a short period of time, up to five days, and is not planning to spend a lot of time in the hotel. The hotel is old and a little run down, but rooms are clean and the restaurant has great views of the marina. We had two rooms: the ocean view and the marina. The first room had a breathtaking ocean view (as promised), but there was an unpleasant smell in the room, as if it was flooded before... The second room (marina view) really had a vew of a parking lot and some view of the marina over the roof tops. On a bright side, it didn't have that smell that was dominating the ocean view room. The car is a must if you decide to stay at this resort. It is basically a place to sleep have a quick breakfast and kill half an hour at the pool or at the bar before heading somewhere else. And to be fair, the restaurant is relatively inexpensive and the food is good. If you have time - try the lobster buffet in Friday night.
