“Contracted property earlier in the afternoon to request a early check-in as weather was bad, left a message but no-one got back to me. Eventually braved the rain and went to the property, no reply when I rang the bell. Looked on-line for possible other contact number to see that the property was closed. As the town was busy that weekend there was no affordable places for me and my daughter to stay so the only option we had was to head to train station and buy tickets to return to Newcastle. This……

“The caretaker Paul didnt know we were coming and initially was more interested in his amazon parcels, told us the owner books people and dosent tell him (happens all the time) id booked one double and one single with 3 beds on the same floor - I got one double with single beds in the attic and my children the 3 bed a floor below us. The b&b had hostel vibes from the start. There were smashed windows, dirty bathrooms without locks, pubes on the toilet roll and bottles stashed behind the was hand……

“It had everything we needed. Bed was comfy. Bedding and towels were clean. There was a shelf unit that was about to collapse and the blinds were knackered and discoloured. The shower was very warm and powerful. Instructions and how to enter the building was emailed to me. But I didn't realise and was expecting a message via WhatsApp or text etc. Tried to call the number on the door and also the other number I had, but couldn't get a reply. Then I found the email, with all the information……

“The room was newly refurbished but it was not cleaned properly. I found packets of white powder behind furniture( suspected drugs); there was long dark hair in bed anf on the floor; booked well in advance and requested for roller bed only to be told there we taken offered to another occupant & had to make kids beds on the floor (fortunately we brought extra bedding); sharing the shower cubicle with 2 other families was not ideal; i sneezed the whole weekend from the electric diffusers but it……

“Good : Easy to find, great comms, generally very clean indeed, quality of bathroom (great shower) and general decor far exceeded my expectation. Bad : False fire alarm at 4.30am, used underwear and socks from.previous guest in a drawer.”

“I asked to change rooms. The first was not great at all and black silicon around base of bath. I moved to a new room, newly renovated. No heating controls, it was very hot. The worst part was the hairs in the bed and unwashed toilet bowl. Was not nice at all. ”

“I arrived and hotel had no reservation from hotels.com but found a room for me, needed my bank details, but would resolve the issue with hotels.com. Just past midnight, whilst in bed fast asleep hotel.com messaged to say the hotel had rejected my booking, LOL, now neither Hilton or hotels.com are responding back to my emails, so not impressed. A shame because it is a nice hotel.”
