"A very nice place and excellent pub food. We stayed in the "annex" across the street from the pub. As they warned, the staris were steep, so those with mobility issues may have trouble. The room was large and the bathroom was good. We only requested room cleaning once during our 6-night stay. The only minor issue was it seemed the common hallways and our room floor was not vacummed. All other services were excellent. We would definitely return to the Rose & Crown."

"Stayed in a recently renovated room (still had masking tape on the back of the bathroom door :-)) and was very nice until I took a shower in the morning and nearly flooded the place. The waste plug had become blocked and was spilling water over the edge of the shower tray. Spent 10 minutes blotting and ringing towels out Informed the lady on reception who seemed more interested in making sure my bar cheque from the night before was charged to my card so left without any appreciation for the hassle or any contrition"

"For the £ very pleased, it’s a beautiful old building but with that high maintenance, and building looks tired in places. But clean, staff friendly, free accessible parking was kindly given an upgrade as booked wrong room, very quiet. I would use again as a quick overnight stay around work."

"Hotel is great location for nearby attractions. Staff where amazing helpful and always available an on hand. There was a wedding party on one of the nights an it made no difference to our stay we could not hear the party or music. The hidden gem here not only the lady who assisted us throughout who was just lovely but the food in restaurant from breakfast to dinner amazing quality and value for money we didnt eat anywhere else. Dont overlook this place grounds to sit in an all needed on site we stayed with our son who equally enjoyed. Thanks"

"Easy parking behind the hotel. Clean spacious room Large portions and a very tasty breakfast. If you have a problem with stairs you need to let reception know when booking as part of the charm/quirkiness is how you have to go up and down stairs to get to a few of the rooms."

"Arrived quite late on trip from Manchester to Oxford. This was a lovely place to stay and get a meal. The food was really good, and reasonably priced. Breakfast the next day was very good and the staff were very attentive, despite the need to get their children off to school. The room was spacious and quiet despite there being a road nearby."

"I requested breakfast but was told they didn’t do it anymore. The stairs were cramped with 2 turns and inadequate/absent rails. We did not meet any staff. There was a note saying how we could ring them. The hot and cold water at the wash basin were plumbed in the wrong way round. I did not see any indicator for which was hot or cold. It matters because this is where you fill the kettle. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm."

"This review is split into two parts, one for the room and one for the restaurant. The restaurant was the good part of the experience, with friendly staff who were happy to accommodate a late request for a table & the food was excellent and well priced. My room (room 12) was not great. There is no lock from the inside, just an external handle which doesn't turn to prevent entry without a key. The layout is odd, with a little corridor to the bathroom which whilst clean is still very worn and dated. There is also a nest full of baby birds directly outside of the single-glazed window, which would be fine for a bird-lover or somebody hard of hearing, but not great otherwise. "
