We are lucky enough to often stay at 5 star hotels so it takes a lot to really impress us. This was one of our favourite hotels ever. It goes without saying that it is a beautiful, iconic property in a fantastic location. However, the staff were just incredible. Every single person we dealt with was friendly, helpful and professional and genuinely seemed to care about our stay / comfort / query. It really was an absolute delight. We had a relatively ordinary room so I know it was not that they thought we were "important" guests. We spoke to the lady cleaning our room, the bar staff, the breakfast staff, the front desk, room service on the phone, the concierge and the pianist in the lobby bar. I asked Paul at the concierge desk about a local Italian restaurant that I had seen but could not remember the name. He knew immediately and asked if we were going to dinner there. We said yes and he asked if we wanted him to book it for us. Within about 2 minutes, we had our reservation. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was probably the best we have ever had for quality and choice - open until noon. The lobby bar was sumptuous with a fountain in the middle and the bar / waiting staff so attentive. Alexander Frey the pianist is also a world renown conductor and organist. Literally everyone who works there is at the top of their game. Add that to such a historic and lovely hotel and you've got more than 5 stars.
