After you've ticked off the well-known attractions in Miraflores, there's heaps more to see in the region. Grab the keys to a rental car, toss your luggage in the trunk and get out on the open road. We've come up with some drives we think you'll love:

• You'll find Mall of the Andes and loads of other intriguing attractions in Ambato. From Miraflores, it's roughly 75 miles away.
• Next stop? Esmeraldas, which is around 110 miles away. Malecón Las Palmas is one local draw card you really shouldn't miss.
• General Villamil Beach is located 210 miles from Miraflores and is one of the region's most breathtaking nature spots. Go for a wander around and enjoy the fresh air here.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Ecuador, then you may need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be allowed to rent a car. You should also note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll need to show your current license your passport and other forms of identification as well.
